Tomorrow is sleeve day!

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I'm finally being sleeved after being delayed since 12/2013. I honestly don't know how to describe how I feel other than saying it's like a mixed bag of emotions, memories, nervousness and excitement just to name a few. I've been heavy all of my life and can never tell you that I know what it's like to be at a regular size, I remember even being the fat kid in kindergarten. Needless to say this is going to be quite an ordeal which will never be lacking in emotions. I think about several missed opportunities in life as well as many judgements that I endured that was specifically difficult during my high school years ( I'm 38 May 17). Tomorrow symbolizes something that always seemed to be out of this world for me which is a chance to finally have a substantial shot at being at a healthy weight as well as having a better quality of life for me and my son. This sleeve will allow me to open many doors for myself that I've avoided basically my entire life. Im a very bubbly person and people seem to love to be around me, I just need to be that bubbly cheerleader for myself and be confident and comfortable with who I am in my own skin, I finally have my chance. I'm going to honor my sleeve!!!

You are going to questioned it up until you get on the table but you will be glad when you get on the mend.

Hi Cushy,

Congratulations. The sleeve is a wonderful second chance and I hope you use it to your best effort. The first couple of weeks are pretty rough but don't have any regrets because this gets easier and more wonderful day by day. You will start losing weight and you will feel so good about yourself and life in general. People won't recognize you but you will be able to show them the person you have always been underneath. More beautiful and vivacious. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
