Motorcycle Class

Wow! Sorry it was so brutal. But I am glad that instructor got suspended. What a stupid thing to do to a newbie biker (or even an experienced one)! Sheesh!! Congrats on passing!!!!

Lisa, How are you feeling this afternoon? I hope that you are taking it easy and resting your injuries. Don't let some power crazed lunatic steal your joy. You're never going to encounter something like her again in all your bike riding days. Hope you are feeling better.

Lisa

I don't think you should let this one incident stop you from learning how to ride. I think you need to go find a parking lot somewhere (we went to a trucking company) and practice. I don't know many people who can take the class and jump right out on the road and ride. It takes a lot of practice. Give it a while till you get healed up and then try it again. You have the basics behind you now (and that is important) so you will know how to do things better. Don't rush things, that is the worse thing you could do. The traffic here is so bad, it is really scary out on the streets. Someone is always pulling out or cutting us off, so you really have to have some experience before you go out here. I practiced a long time, until I thought I could handle the traffice. You will be fine, but I just can't stress enough to get some seat time before you take off and go solo. It will make all the difference in the world for you. Just because you ride a Harley don't mean you are a biker chick. All kinds of people ride Harley's.

Yeah, what Betty said!

Hope your healing up well.

Congatulations on earning your motorcycle licence! Well done! Just like a woman to get it right the first time!

I still find it hard to believe you actually went and did all of this out of spite!

What does your husband say in the midst of all this?

Wow, Teresa, I can't imagine an instructor falling. I got "saftey safety safety" crammed in my head 20 times every hour for 3 days straight. The entire course revolved around safety with huge portions on "suprises on the road" such as rain, oil, debris, gravel, etc. If one of my instructors slipped, I'd have been really discouraged.

But guess what? It's official... I have my license. I went to the DMV today and got my new photo taken, and here's the major bonus - I took a good DMV picture for the first time in my life! So not only do I have a bike license, but it's a cute one!

I left work to go to the doc this morning. Nothing's broken, but they x-rayed my foot because it's swollen & bruised. I have a torn muscle in my chest-wall, but I'm unable to take NSAIDS, so I just gotta wait it out.

I seriously had no desire to ride the Harley tonight (needed a night of rest.) But I HAD to go because the license was official, so Chris stood out front while I rode around the block a few times. Then I decided to go for it! I went across a busy street to my friend's house! I stayed close to home, but I actually drove in traffic for a few minutes 4 times. I'm not too confident yet, so that was a big deal. I was gone 1/2 hour, and Chris was pretty damn pissed at me (like I give a crap?) He told me I wasn't supposed to go in traffic yet. Will he ever figure out that I don't listen to rules? Especially from a man? So when I came home, he was mad, and all I could say was, "Honey, when you brought home that Harley you opened up a big ol' can of worms, so you better get used to it!" So he stormed in the garage mumbling about buying another bike (just picture a 9 year old throwing a tantrum cause he can't have $100 for a new video game.) Boo hoo. BOO.... HOOO.... HOOOOO!

Lisa you crack me up!! HUGE congrats on the license and ride if you want or just pretend to ride so you can aggravate and piss off Chris. That is worth all the torn shoulders in the world. LOLOLOLOL!!!!!

Lisa -

A huge HUGE HUGE congrats on your license!!!

I am so sorry you got hurt in class, but am glad that you're going to be okay. A torn muscle in your chest wall - OWWWWW! And poor foot. So I am assuming the motorcycle class is taking care of those medical charges?!?!

And you have had your warning.... It is just a matter of time now before you come home to ANOTHER bike, with your name on it.

Remember, all - you heard it from me first!! DeLarla's going to be a TWO motorcycle family within the next 12 months! Mark my words!

And that's the way it usually happens. Patty is determined to get her own bike, she's got it all picked out. White with pink flames on all the tins.

Lisa. You got a biker chick attitude, whether you think you're a biker chick or not! It's all about doing your own thing, and not hurting anyone else. And it's about getting back on when your common sense tells you not to.

Congrats on your license. Keep the rubber side down, and remember, every other vehicle out there is potentially lethal. Give them the respect they deserve.

Lisa, please be careful and give yourself plenty of time to learn this machine and all of it's quirks! If you're in a confrontation with a 4 wheeled vehicle, they're going to win! I have friends that were just backing out of a driveway in a quiet residential area. A truck (going 25 mph) hit them, threw her onto a concrete culvert, cracked her helmet. (She was a big gal.) She would have been killed, if she hadn't had a helmet on. They were both in the hospital for MONTHS, both had broken arms, legs, surgeries w/ pins, traction, corrective surgeries. They still have lingering problems from this freak accident. It was really scary to see something like that happened at such a slow speed.

Marie, before I was born my parents were nearly killed on a Harley (they weren't even married yet.) I'm all about safety. My husband thinks I'm a geek because I earned safety reflective stickers for my helmet, so it doesn't look "cool." Even the makers of the helmet put a brass button on the side of the helmet that says, "Boneyard" and the Harley emblem is written in bones.

Last night when I rode, I actually pulled to the side of the road when the traffic got heavy. I'm not going to pretend anything. But I did it! I got onto the streets - only for one block - but I did that 3 times.

Thanks guys, it feels good to have won the game against Chris. I got a 95 on my driving test... he got an 85. HAHAH, he says it's cuz I tested on a smaller bike, but hell, I only had a few days of training compared to his 3 decades.

ONE BIG ONE FOR THE WOMEN!!!!

Donali, do you seriously want me to have a heart attack? Another bike? Now where did I put those bankruptcy forms.

Yes, Penni, a big hi-five across the internet for getting Mr. B. back. Classic moment. All I said during his tantrum was "You opened a big ol' can of worms, didn't you?"

Whipple, you seriously don't need to egg Donali on any more! Two bikes? Hell, I guess I may as well stop plucking my chin hairs and grow a beard!

Donali, you don't know what you're talking about. "A two-Harley family within 12 months?" I think not. Wrong. Do not pass go, do not collect. Honnnk. I don't think so..... Don't you HATE being wrong?

More like "within 3 days"

HOLY CRAP, WHAT HAVE I DONE????????????????????????/

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
