My surgery is June 3rd...and my pre-op diet starts the 20th of this month...was wondering if anyone had suggestions for Protein powders...i plan on using the Premier Protein shakes but I need the whey Protein Isolate powder too...I know about Syntrax Nectar and Matrix, but those are rather expensive....looking for some cheaper options...thanks!!

I don't use many powders...didn't like the texture...

but for after (if your doc insists on powder for now) you may qualify for free Protein shakes thru InsureNutrition.com it only takes a minute to fill it out and you can do it now, so you will have it ready when needed :)

For the powders, you can add crystal light and possibly Torani syrups (sugar free) to help with the flavor... I find blending them with ice made them more digestable for me.

Check out Body Fortress Super Advanced (online or at Walmart) or Pure Protein for high quality, low cost whey Protein powders.< /p>

http://www.bodyfortress.com/where-to-buy/

They are both blends of whey isolate and whey concentrate. If you must have 100% whey isolate, Body Fortress Whey Isolate is pretty cheap (comparatively speaking) as is Isopure Zero Carb:

I've never seen samples of Pure Protein or Body Fortress but you can get samples of Isopure Zero Carb/Low Carb at Nashua Nutrition:

samples-1-serving.html

(scroll down on the drop-down arrow box and look for Nature's Best - Isopure).

I love Nature's Best Isopure. For my 2 week Pre op I got a bag of vanilla and a bag of chocolate. They were less than $20 each on Amazon and lasted me the whole 2 weeks. I recently got more post op and I still love the flavor (well, as much as you can love Protein Shakes, LOL).

Target has some ready to drink shakes that are high Protein and low sugar- I think I've been paying $5.99 for a 4-pack. They taste the same as Premier Protein to me. The Walgreens store brand ones are pretty good too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
