Was anyone or is anyone concerned with the permanence of the surgery? My date is June 11. Im pretty ok with it but still weary of losing half my stomach... how does everyone else feel? I think my therapist said I had to mourn that loss. Thanks

Mourn smorn..............the stomach is not an appendage. It just holds food. Too much food in our case. The smaller one is still doing the same job. We're not handicapped by having a smaller stomach. All we have to do now is re-train the brain to put in the correct foods in the right amount from now on. I am rejoicing. My huge stomach never did me anything I am pleased about. I'm glad it's gone. <_<

Irish,

I keep asking myself that same question. From the studies I have read most people are still happy after 6 year. Granted many have gained some weight back , but are still at least 50% smaller than when they started. It seems 15 to 20% will develope acid reflux within 6 years. This can be controlled with a prescription. Keep in mind this proceedure statistically has been used for a short amount of time. But in this short time frame they look good compared to the alternative. Personally I know several people that have been banded more up to 11 years and are going strong and recently met a band to sleeve conversion. That individual told me the sleeve was the way to go. Try going to a support group. I like being able to ask those at have been there questions in person.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
