Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

It's the little things...

Recommended Posts

Before my surgery 8 weeks ago, I was looking forward to a lot of small things like being able to bend over to pick up toys, paint my toenails, and even something as simple as crossing my legs while sitting. I am happy that I can now do those things! What small things did you look forward to/accomplish?

I was looking forward to many small things. In reality none have occurred.

Everything has been very very big occurrences. It just keeps getting better. :D

Shopping in the normal section of a store, single digit sizes, feeling good in panties.

Did not know what to look forward to but the biggest pleasure is shopping for 5-6 hours and coming home feeling good and happy. I am no longer gasping for breath because of fat and asthma. I no longer use inhalers. I no longer sit in my chair in front of the television all day. I am a shopping diva who no longer drives through Taco Bell.

Not ever feeling hungry and basically forcing myself to eat. I love not craving for things! And people are eating all around me and I have no attachment to it. I haven't even battled any head hungry. I'm at day 8 and have lost 15.2.

I think at first everyday I was discovering new "non-scale victories!" It's very exciting!! Congrats on your journey!! I think one of the best unexpected "NSV" for me has been how everyone has commented on how much younger I look now. I definitely wasn't thinking necessarily of looking younger as a benefit of losing weight. :-) But I'll take it!!!

Getting back into my life at full speed. That was not a little thing but it had escaped me only a little at a time (I gained a lot of weight but over a long time). I didn't realize how quickly it would return. I love having energy at the end of the day, bending over without cutting off the blood supply to my head, fitting into exercise shoes and clothes, walking so fast and so far that neither my husband nor my child can keep up with me. There have been so many small delights that have come into my life thanks to my sleeve and the weight loss it has helped me with.

I am just starting the process to have surgery but I already have a list of "little things". I look forward to painting my toenails, tying my shoes without an act of congress, fitting into amusement rides, fitting into airplane seats, riding a bike, taking a spin class, I could go on and on :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
