9 days post op pureed food phase

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on April 29th at Penn hosp in phila and I must say it was the best decision I ever made thus far! After 1 week of full liquids my nutritionist graduated me to the next phase, purée. I swear tuna fish never taste so good lol. I keep hearing from vsg veterans that once u start eating foods again that your taste buds will change. So far everything that I've eaten taste how it always taste. At what point will my taste buds change, if at all?

I am a little past 3 months out and I have not noticed a big change in taste yet. However, I notice I can not handle too much garlic or onions. Two of my faves! LOL I get really bad heartburn with them. I do notice that I LOVE and tend to naturally gravitate toward foods with higher Protein now, but I'm not for sure if it's the actual surgery or the mental effect from my nutritionist drilling me to get Protein, protein, protein! HA! Either way I'm extremely happy and I feel great! Congrats on your success!! :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
