My surgery date is a week after yours - June 16th, so I'm working on the same question!

What I've got on my list so far is:

  • protein shakes (of course) - I've been sampling to try to find ones I like
  • broth
  • V8
  • thermos for taking cold or hot liquids out as needed
  • various chewable vitamins - I ordered a sample pack from celebratevitamins.com - haven't tried them yet..
  • I'm concerned about having to maybe travel for work while on pre-op or mushies so I also bought a cooler lunch bag and a food canister - like a thermos but for solid food

I look forward to seeing other suggestions. I'm sure I'm forgetting a million things!

-Susan

Ditto above plus these were keys to my survival....

Blender bottles -1 have two different sizes and even 4 1/2 months out I use them every day

powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder to add to broths and diluted/strained cream Soups (the sweet Protein drinks get old)

Broths and cream Soups

Drinkable yogurt ... Kefir had less sugar than a lot of other ones (very encouraged by my nut, but check with your surgeon to make sure this is on your OK list)

GasX strips

Mio or Dasani drops or crystal light or tea bags...something to add to Water since a lot of people have a hard time drinking plain Water postop. (I couldn't drink it until 3+ months out)

Elastic waist pants - you will be very swollen and bloated. I couldn't wear jeans for 2 weeks.

Comfy (loose) bra - most people have an incision right in the middle at bra strap level

A lot of people have issues with Constipation, so you may want to consider Metamucil, benefiber, Miralax, milk of magnesia, etc.

House shoes or slip on shoes in case you are too sore to bend over. I agree with flavoring for Water. Have your house clean before going to hospital and have laundry caught up.

Jello, Popsicles, and yogurt.

All of the above! Plus I have these recommendations:

  • Give your dwelling a good cleaning. You're not going to want to do much for awhile post-op
  • If you can afford it, get a massage as close to the surgery date as possible. Really helps ease the tension and helps release toxins.
  • Comfy slippers that slip on easily
  • DVDs, games, and things to keep you entertained/engaged during your recovery period
  • If you cook, make batches of stock and freeze in pint containers
  • Select the room that will be your "sanctuary" for at least the first few days. Fill the room with things that make you smile. Maybe pictures, candles or some flowers
  • If possible, rid your dwelling of foods that are not allowed, especially chips and sweets

Good luck, see you on the "loser's bench"!

Be well…

Thankfully I won't have to worry about cleaning or anything, my parents moved in with me after they retired, so I have plenty of help at home, that is one less worry

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
