I am 3 weeks post band op. I am in need of a hip replacement but need to lose weight for I get it. That is why I decided to get the lap band. However I am in so much pain daily because I can not take my much needed Aleve which did mask my pain. Tylenol does not provide any relief. Does anyone know med that is allowed other than Tylenol for pain relief???

I'm in need of double total knee replacements so I get where you're coming from. My advice would be to call your PCP and see if you can get a cortisone shot to tide you over till your hip surgery?

My doctor forbids his patients from using Nsaids but I have to confess that if I'm stuck walking a long distance(Ikea shopping) I'll fall back on 3 ibuprofens. I just hope I'm not creating an ulcer?

proudmama1319 I am sorry you are in so much pain-but TMF suggested a shot...that is a great idea since we have been told not to take NSAIDS any longer. I so know about pain...had both of my knee's replaced at once and when that happened gained loads of weight and nothing but NSAIDS helped...but now that I have had the band...I use icy/hot roll on and it helps a bit...tylenol doesn't touch me...I would recommend taking an OTC med like Prilosec along with them if you still take them. You do need to talk with your doctor about that...exercising is helping a little more too...once I get past the "I've exercised mode" LOL!!! wishing you the best and CONGRATS and WELCOME to BAND LAND!!!

TMF hang in there my friend...hoping your knee surgery will help you feel better...you put your horse in front of the wagon-unlike me doing it the other way. Take care...hope to see you on here soon!!!

please call your doctor and tell them you are in pain (they are the ones who will/can/could) prescribe you pain meds to help out......always refer to your doctor for pain of any kind and especially with pain meds.....feel better soon

I use ice packs daily - have to count to forty as at first it really hurts but it's just surface pain. Then when the inflammation dissipates I can't believe the result. My doctor suggests that if I have ibuprofen it should be liquid or the pills taken with food to make sure they move right through the pouch. Reminds me to talk to the pharmacist about a decent liquid as the children's version is awful. I try not to take anything but sometimes it's just too much. I have Lidocain Patches but they don't reach the joint pain very well. Still, they are something. Fish oil seems to really help me. I take it daily in liquid form mixed with flax seed -- yummy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
