Impossible to pass water and puree down!

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Soledad and I had my sleeve done in New Jersey April 21st, everything was perfect I had the surgery at 8 am and at 2pm I was at home.It was my first surgery with general anesthesia and my reaction when I woke up, was very good.today after 16 days I tried to start eating purée and My throat and chest hurts a lot, can somebody tell me why?it is difficult to pass everything down, even the water.somebody told me that is because of the intubation the anesthesiologist did in my lungs just before the surgery, that helped me to breath during the procedure, but I thought after 16 days, that pain was going to let me drink at least, but I was wrong. Please help me with this!!!!!'!!!!!!!!

Thanks a lot.

You right. Sixteen days seems too long for it to still be causing you pain. That said.......this is not the place you need to be seeking the cause or medical advice. Call your doctor. Or better yet, go to the ER if you can't drink fluids. You do not want to become dehydrated.

If your throat is burning.. it sounds like excess acid. Did you get given a PPI?

I would try and get some omeprazole in and see how you feel. I had a problem with that (still do), but if I take my tablets, I'm all good in the hood.

As for the difficulty in getting things down.. It does get better with time.

However and as Recycled stated - we can't sort it for you on here. You need to see your surgeon.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Hi you really need to connect with your Dr as everyone is saying, but I'm wondering I'd you are trying to eat too fast? I have this difficult thing with Water because I want to gulp it down so I often freeze it or put it on a sippy cup. Maybe go back to your liquid diet food and slowly introduce mushy foods. It really is trail and error. We are all different. Keep reaching out, some has got to have overcome something similar and will have some advice for you. Good luck and don't let it go too far without getting medical help.

I had this problem for 4 months. Do talk to your doctor. PPI's will help and you may find that you prefer soft foods much longer than others. I was tested for stricture, but it came back negative. Some of us just heal differently. It does get better. If you have a stricture you need to get this dealt with asap by your doctor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
