Does wearing a bra after surgery hurt the stomach?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering where exactly the incisions will be on my stomach after the sleeve surgery...wondering if wearing a bra will hurt or irritate the incisions. Does anyone have any comments? Did you get a sports bra that has less elastic binding for the few days after surgery? If so, what brands or where did you find them? Thanks for any advise.

Right after surgery it might hurt because of where the incisions are. It all depends on your surgeon's technique. I brought an all-cotton, fasten-in-front leisure/sports type bra to the hospital (NO underwire!) and was glad I did -- a regular bra would have rested right against my top incision and hurt badly.

I didn't worry about a bra for a couple of weeks. I was so cold all the time I always had a t-shirt and a sweat shirt on so it wasn't a big deal, that and i'm not very well endowed. :)

Might do whilst the incisions are raw. I went for one of those pull-on, moulded, total elastic thingamebobs.

I have a fair rack, so I needed some support - else I'dve been cleaning my shoes. It was a godsend.

Post healing, normal underwires have been fine. However and if I've eaten until I'm 'full' - the underwire at the sternum can be a bit of an excess pressure and I'm often found whipping it off after dinner in my house!

If I'm out, i eat less - cause I don't want to free the boobies in a public place!

It would scare people, for sure!

One of my incisions were right on my bra line.. So at home I go braless..I dont think my incision could tolerate all that weight...lol

I had 6 incisions. 5 across my belly, a couple inches above my belly button and then one right at my bra line in center. I didn't wear a bra for the first week and that one healed the quickest because it was so small. I went back to work the next week and a bra was fine. In fact I felt more comfortable and more "together" with a bra.

My Surgeon said that my going braless was one of the causes of the yeast infection I got just under my breasts - the sweat never dried.

It must depend on the surgeon. I asked before being wheeled into surgery about wearing a bra and he said it wouldn't be a problem....sure enough, all my incisions were below my bra line and above my waistband. I've had zero problems with clothing.

It doesn't hurt to ask beforehand and hopefully your surgeon will accommodate you

I am having lab band and was also wondering about what would be most comfortable to wear home after the surgery. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
