taterbum 20 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Heya all, I'm glad I found this site! My clinic just called me and set a surgery date for the 29th of May. I'm excited/nervous and a bit of head spinning, it literally was 45 days from my first doc appointment to surgery. I tell you though, I'm excited for no more freakin testing....OMG I don’t know if I can handle any more poking, prodding, x-raying, ultrasounding and blood taking. The next question they asked was "I see we haven't decided what procedure, the surgeon is saying you are a good candidate for either. Which one do you want?" The surgeon is leaning toward the sleeve, due to the fact I use NASIDs for joint pain from sports injuries. I've read a ton, looked at sites, and read forums...and still am undecided. The bennies vs negatives on each are clear...I'm just still undecided. Anyone else in this dilemma? Thanks -Jay Edited May 7, 2014 by taterbum
mentalistfan 189 Posted May 8, 2014 I vote sleeve. If you have gerd or reflux maybe bypass is more for you.
livvsmum 2,369 Posted May 8, 2014 I started out my 6 month pre-op program thinking RNY for sure. About half way through my requirements I started to have serious reservations. What I realized was that it wasn't surgery itself that was giving me pause, but specifically the malabsorptive part of the procedure and re-routing of the intestines, etc. I realized that I could get all the benefits of the surgery without doing all of that by choosing the sleeve. So I changed my procedure to the sleeve about half way through and never doubted it after that point. In the back of my mind I was afraid i maybe wouldn't lose as much with the sleeve, but as you can see from my ticker, I've lost almost 120 pounds in under 8 months, so I am a strong believer in the sleeve. For me it was a tool to give me a jump start and what I did with it after that was up to me. :-) Good luck in making your decision.
