One more month and i have to loose weight

Recommended Posts

Help! I had appt. 3 of 4 yesterday and was reminded I have to lose some weight before surgery because Aetna requires it and it's not a lot of weight but so far I've gained 2 lbs instead! I keep indulging with foods I love and thinking to myself "you won't be able to eat this after surgery" I know this is the time for me to start to make life saving changes but I've always been secretly rebellious against losing weight!!! Yep I'm crazy, just a little!

I've been banded almost 8 months and there is nothing I can't eat (well triscuits are an uncomfortable food so i choose to avoid those) and nothing I deprive myself of.

You learn to eat in much smaller portions and enjoy what you are eating.

I eat out more now after my banding then before….and I enjoy each meal. I always bring leftovers home and its never been a problem.

Try not to think that you will never eat again or you will never eat foods you love again. It is just not the case.

My tastes and cravings have changed and I'm learning to let it all work together as it should.

The greatest thing is Im not on a diet anymore. I track my food intake on fitness pal and I don't fool myself on what i am actually taking in calorie wise.

I eat to live….I no longer live to eat!

Good luck to you!

My insurance didn't require me losing weight for approval but I did decide on my own to start my pre-op diet sooner than required and lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks. Its something easy to do and with great results! Message me if I can help you further.

Please do what you need to for insurance purposes. Just know this however. I went into banded life kicking and screaming. I didn't want to do it and mourned the whole idea of not being able to eat what I wanted when I wanted. Well...16 months later and I've done amazingly well and most important, no food out there tastes as good as normal sized feels.

As long as you follow directions after your surgery...and I mean that...you MUST follow directions and not test the band and do your very best not to cheat, you will do well and enjoy the fruits of your hard work.

Good luck!

Good luck. When I was getting ready with all my pre ops I started having the Protein Shakes for Breakfast. That was March and the surgery was the end of July. By the surgery I had lost 28 lbs by giving up my bad breakfast foods. I don't miss them at all after almost 2 years. I still have a shake every day.

Unfortunately you will..

But you won' t want, most of the times, at least.

Our rebellious mind is our enemy, but the band is a friend ready to help.

I don't mean I no longer crave for "forbidden" foods, but much less than before. Maybe because you are easily satiated, but it is easier.

That is my personal experience.

Best luck!!!

I'm on the same boat, I have to lose 15lbs before surgery but managed to gain 2lbs instead!

My surgery isn't until mid July so I still have time to lose some weight, the pre op diet will help shed some of it too!

It's crazy to have a requirement to lose weight before the surgery. Aren't we doing this because we don't have the ability to lose the weight unless we have the surgery?

I have aetna too. The point is to show them that when you get the band you will be dedicated to it. I only had to lose 2 lbs b4 surgery. Like you I would eat things thinking this is probably the last time I'm going to eat this so let me stuff my face lol. You can do it. My nutritionist told me if I gained a lb. Or 2 She Wouldnt Mark It So That I Would still get approved. Anyway I got to thinking about the point of it all. I didn't want her to have to lie I wanted to follow the rules bc the rules after being banded are alot more intense than the 2 lbs I was ordered to lose. You can do it! Walk the whole week of your apts. And drink as much Water as possible. Water really does wonders for your body!! Good luck!!!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
