Jersrose43 837 Posted May 7, 2014 So I keep reading about the Hair loss. Ok. I'm good I get it. But can you be a little more specific ? Like what am I dealing with? Clumps Patches of missing follicles Full on baldness Should i consider a wig I travel for work - won't be doing that for a month post op - but if I lose hair it'll be more noticeable than my weight loss. Help? Allay my fears please Thanks!
Mrs.RRn 2,111 Posted May 7, 2014 So, everyone's different.... Mine started falling at 3 months and I had new regrowth starting at 7 months. It fell out in clumps. It thinned mostly on the sides of my head. Noticeably thinner but not bald. (I did have VERY thick hair before). However, a ponytail wasn't an option bc of how thin the sides looked when I pulled my hair back. And of course I took Biotin & used fancy shampoos & got in all my Protein. Mrs.RRn 2,111 Posted May 7, 2014 It was just a little disturbing. The hair ball in the shower went from mouse sized to chinchilla sized (if that helps).
Jersrose43 837 Posted May 7, 2014 Yes. It does thank you. It seems lately I've been moving towards chinchilla size and I'm still pre op! So I am worried Age sucks.
Sassy Pants1 186 Posted May 7, 2014 It really is different for everyone. I only noticed because how much came out when brushing or combing. And I always had/,have loose hairs all over my shoulders and back. The girl who cuts my hair could not really see any difference. It started at about 4 months and I started seeing it slow down towards the end of month 6. It really is temporary. Keep taking the Biotin - not sure how much it helps, but I didn't want to find out the hard way!
livvsmum 2,369 Posted May 7, 2014 For me it was similar to what I experienced after childbirth....it would come out if I ran my fingers through my hair or brushed it or in the shower. I noticed definite thinning along the hairline and top, but never a bald spot or anything like that. Also, I'm sure that I thought it was way worse than other people....I don't think others really noticed it.
Cabingirl 55 Posted May 7, 2014 Great descriptions of my experience from fellow posters. Work hard to meet your doctor's Protein goal daily and you will reduce the extent of your hair loss. Believe me, your weight loss will wow everyone, they won't be looking at your head!
Madam Reverie 2,958 Posted May 7, 2014 Take LOTS of Iron. I mean, lots. It helps things dramatically. More so - dare I say it, than all the '150g of Protein a day' contingent. i complained to my doctor and they said 'up your Iron - by a lot - and eat red meat'. As soon as I did that, the loss abated. I posted a couple of threads on this very subject. Sadly there are many threads on this subject. But.. if you want to see what happened to me at the 4.5 month mark.. This is it... 1 DollFaceKi reacted to this
Jersrose43 837 Posted May 8, 2014 Madame reverie that's the perfect visual description and exactly what I was afraid of. Eek! Thank you all. Up the Iron it is. Just got approved today and so begins the journey
Madam Reverie 2,958 Posted May 8, 2014 That amount of loss happened every time I washed my hair from it starting at the 3.5 month mark, till the 7 month mark. My temples got threadbare and so did my fringe area. I could see my scalp. Now, at approaching 8 months, I have horns of regrowth at my temples and the fringe area is taking its sweet-ass time, but it's starting to happen. Here's to you eating loads of Iron and not having this happen. Congrats on your approval and welcome to the madness!
