Medicaid (WV) - two 6 month physician supervised diet - monthly weigh ins a must? or can you have like 4 over 6 months....

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have had two 6 month physician supervised diets within the last year and half. In each of them, I weight in like every 6 weeks or so. Do you HAVE to have 6 monthly weigh ins to get approved by medicaid (WV) or will that be enough with strong support letters from the physicians?

I know that the 6 month periods are a must - but I want to know if 4 weigh ins over 6 months will be ok or if it had to be monthly. I would call the place and find out except it is 8:30 pm at night and it is closed. I feel kind of depressed because I heard tonight that possibly if u missed a month then u would have to start again. No need to shout at me like I am stupid. Thanks.

First of all, no one shouted at you like you are stupid. They just simply suggested that you call your insurance and find out their requirements are. We can't tell you what Medicaid requires because it is different from state to state.

1. The person put multiple exclamation marks. They seemed to be shouting.

2. I put my state hoping that someone from my state has been through this and would know the details.

Thanks.

Shouting on the Internet is using all caps.

I'm really not here for an internet spat over something so trivial. I hope someone has the information I requested.

I googled up my states medicaid wls, I found a form that the providers fill out. A page a month for six months. I gather I would I would need six appts. But do call your insurance. Cms might vary state to state

I dont really know how it works in your state but i am from NY and was approve under medicaid amerigroup healthplus. Its mandatory a CONSECUTIVE six month weight in. Luckily my surgeons office gave me a package indicating step by step of what i had to do to get insurance approval... And sure enough i was approved. Approval from medicaid keeps a lot of people from going forward with getting weight loss surgery, to does people i have two thing to say... Do it you will be APPROVED

In IL medicaid it didnt have to b consecutive I had my 6 month weigh ins every months except 1 but I just picked up the next month.. it had to b a total of 6 times. At your pace. The sooner u get it done the sooner u get approved

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
