Any Richmond, Va sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hi ya'll! I am in Glen Allen. My surgery is scheduled 6/16/15 with Dr. Schroeder. I am self pay.

I need to start getting myself together as I know these next few months will fly by. Just wondering what you all used as far as Vitamins and Protein drinks/shakes?

Thanks!

Amy

Greetings, Amy! We have a lot in common -- I am also in Glen Allen, am a self pay patient, and Dr. Schroder is my surgeon. My surgery is on Thursday :)

I have tried a couple of different shakes, and have settled in with mostly Atkins products. Their vanilla is actually pretty good and they have several variations on chocolate that I also enjoy, including a mocha latte that isn't half bad. The Premier Protein shakes are also pretty good, but are getting harder to find. Martin's seems to be phasing them out, and I couldn't find any at Target the other day. I have stockpiled some 4-packs for my first two weeks post op, as they have 30 g Protein per container.

As for Vitamins, I went with the suggested Bariatric Advantage chewables, at least for the short term. I'll probably do some comparison shopping once I have some time. In the interim, it was easier to just "go with the flow."

The Best place to get the Premier

Protein Shakes is COSTCO!!

Self Paying patients be aware! I am so thankful that my insurance covered! The hospital bill was 110,000 but my insurance negociated the amount down to 25,000 and I only paid 1,000 !!! Not including the bill from the Dr!!

I had surgery 10/17/13 with Dr. Carmody. He's a great surgeon. I have not reached goal due to my own poor choices. Starting to gain weight. Do any of you know when they have the support groups at St. Mary's?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
