Howdy all, I was looking for some input on how other folks recovered after their VSG. I am two months out and I still feel pretty wimpy. I eat pretty well and concentrate on getting my Protein and Water in. I pretty much stay between 800-1000 calories. I've tried to search this topic out with very little success. I just don't feel up to par yet and wondered if that is common. I am in my late 50's so I'm sure I wouldn't spring back like some if the younger people. Any input would be greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jackarea: i was 53 last year when I had my surgery. I didn't really have much energy either for the first few months post-op. However, if you are concerned call your Dr. Your body is still healing which takes a lot of energy and most of that energy is being taken from your fat stores since you can't eat very much. Try to keep walking and sleep as much as you can, that helps too.

Congrats on getting the surgery. I think it probably took me a good 6-8 weeks to have more energy, and I'm 48. I was definitely quite tired because I wasn't eating that much. Age may be a factor, but your activity level might be as well. You may also have a job where you're more sedentary, so again, not much activity. Try to walk around whenever possible, and drink those fluids.

Are you sure you're getting all your Protein in, and not having too many calories? 1000 calories sounds like a lot 2 months out. I wanna say you should be closer to 650-800, tops, but we're all so different that you might require more. I think the best person to discuss this with would be your NUT. He/She should be able to help guide you better.

Hang in there. It'll get better!

Hi Jackarae. I'm 68 & I had my VSG on 4-16-14 three weeks ago. I am feeling pretty good. My stamina is not good yet & my back gets tired easily but I'm tolerating the liquid/puree diet well & don't have any pain. I'm wondering if you have a physically demanding job or if you might be having some hormones fluctuations that are affecting you. I have had an appointment with my chiropractor & a massage & think those additional alternative therapies helped me very much. I hope you feel better very soon! I wish you much success!

I am peri menopausal and there are days when I just need more food and other days when I don't. I have been problematic free since coming home from surgery. My scale is not moving a lot these days and I don't know if it is the stall or my peri. My body operates best when I'm eating 800-900 per day. I have more energy and feel more alive.

I say, work with your doctor and nutritionist because everyone is different in how much they can consume. Good luck to you and I hope you get your energy back soon!

Thanks all for your kind replies. I'm not really worried at this point, just kind of over not feeling up to snuff. My work is pretty active with lots of walking involved. I've been back to yoga for the past few weeks. I poop out pretty much about 2/3 if the way through class and then I just muddle through. I'm almost 40 lbs down and I can sure move better than ever so that is nice. I have a feeling that the closer I get to goal, the better I will operate in the lower calorie intake.

I appreciate you all taking the time to respond!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
