I OVER-ATE FOR THE FIRST TIME TONIGHT. ::SIGH:: ::CRY::

Recommended Posts

Three weeks post-op. I had a very mushy food, but I ate too much. I recorded my calories and it is WAAAAY too much. Plus, I feel really sick. I didn't set out to overeat. Heck--it was a package of two tiny burritos (for lack of a better explanation of the food), and I had only one...over the course of two hours.

Still, I feel so awful. And down on myself.

Any words of advice? How many calories were you all consuming at week three? My doctor tells me not to think of calories--only Protein and liquid consumption.

::cry:: I hope I didn't screw up my surgery, life-long goals, etc.

Are you sure that type of food is allowed 3 weeks out ? Did you eat the tortilla ?

You're fine- don't beat yourself up. I'm 3 wks post op and I eat around 400-450 a day. I wouldn't eat burritos tho- the dough is not good for you. Beans, yes- breads, no- they are a waste of space. I eat tuna, puréed chicken, salmon, stuff like that. Try to remember your new belly can only hold oh so much so don't give it junk. You didn't ruin your surgery tho and if you overrate you would be spitting up. Your probably just full and your gut is probably just confused a little. Maybe take a little walk and try to get your meal to process. Hopefully you'll feel better soon. Good luck and hang in there!

Thanks for your replies. :) I guess this is just an adjustment. This is mental over physical, so I have to not beat myself up too much. But you're right--this was probably the wrong food, even if my heart and brain were in the right place. :) Thanks again.

hang in there, the surgery fixes the size of our stomachs, not our brains.

they take a little more time, and a lot more work.

recognizing that you DID overeat is a great first step, learning how to not do it again is the next.

just take it easy on yourself, we are ALL bound to have setbacks, we are human after all.

good luck!

Tomorrow is a new day. Don't be too hard on yourself. You recognized your mistake and hopefully it won't happen again. :)

It is quite confusing to not count calories when the sites like fitness pal and spark people calculate your calories then your doc says not to count. Then on top of that people on this site talk about how many calories they consume in each stage. Whew! I must say that I have done the same thing by eating too many calories while consuming Protein first and no bread. What it sounds like to me is that you are eating over a longer period of time. It is called grazing which is a habit as well.

It is easy to eat more calories that way, so get back to plan and eat Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in 30 minutes. snack only 2-3 times per day with Protein and drink your Water. Make a commitment with yourself that whatever meal you eat, you will sit down and eat for 30 minutes only.

Good luck!

That's great advice bladefox, it does sound like she grazing and we do need to eat slowly but set a limit and 30 minutes sounds like a good target. You can do this! It just takes time and practice.

This is so helpful. Thank you! I'm going to keep this thread up on my computer to keep referring back to, when this issue comes up. I've indeed been grazing, maybe moving through the stages too quickly. You're right; this can definitely be confusing at first.
(And, dare I say, this has been such a humbling experience...and continues to be.)

I am sure we all will make a mistake in our food options, whether its on purpose or accident. Learn from it and move on. Eventually we will be able to have those yummy foods we miss or crave, its just all about portion portion portion.

Good Luck on your journey!

It is still less than you use to eat, right? Keep moving forward, everybody trips and falls sometime. You have to define yourself as how you get up and get back to it. I at two bites of chocolate last week and this week I have lost 7 pounds. Shrug it off and move forward, you can't do anything about the past anyways!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
