sleeve30 33 Posted May 5, 2014 I've been trying to save up for my out of pocket expenses... I know that the max out of pocket that i can be charged is $2500. Now, who will charge first? Is the deductible paid to the hospital? Do I have to pay anything else before I can have surgery?
joatsaint 2,814 Posted May 5, 2014 I had to pay both the hospital and my doctor's office. I didn't have to pay in one big lump to both. I was charged by the doctor and the hospital as I went in for appointments and procedures. For example, when I when in for a doctor's consultation I was charged, then when I went into the hospital for bloodwork I was charged again. Both took credit cards, that's how I paid my deductible. I figured I could pay off the cards with the money I saved from the food I wouldn't be eating. :-) There were actually 3 places I wound up paying - the doctor, the psychologist, and the hospital. The hospital would not schedule my surgery until they had some form of payment in place.

Jersrose43 837 Posted May 7, 2014 I think you shouldn't worry about it. The hospital may send a claim first, it may be the doc, or even the anesthesia. I think you should do what you need to do to manage your care. Call your carrier to confirm if you have a deductible and a coinsurance (max out of pocket) or if you have both. Many docs and hospitals are perfectly comfortable giving you payment plans for those
