This is my first post here...been lurking for years...

I got a tattoo on my belly, in bright colors where no-one will miss it that says "partial gastrectomy"

I don't do jewelry...the tattoo is permanent and I can't forget to wear it....

My bf suggested a tattoo. I've been thinking about designing one for my wrist, where a medic alert Bracelet would go.

I ordered one from Roadid.com ... you can put a lot of info on the bracelets. I will post a picture when I get it.

I'm still in my planning stages, but it will likely be a blue star of life with VSG inscribed internally, and No Blind NG/No NSAID around the perimeter. I do have a keychain on the way, but this way, I would have something on my body that couldn't fall off/be overlooked.

Just FYI everyone, I chose to have "Gastrectomy patient" inscribed on my necklace instead of "VSG" or "vertical sleeve". Unless you are in the bariatric world, you may not know what these are....none of my EMT or nurse friends knew. All medical personnel will understand what a gastrectomy or partial gastrectomy is.

This is mine....

Again, I have to ask, what do the guys wear? Are men also walking around wearing these bracelets and necklaces? Anyway, I need to check with my surgeon. I've honestly never heard of anyone with any medical condition wearing anything like this in the country I live in, so I don't know if emergency responders would even know to look.

I've seen some online that look like those plastic bracelets athletic men wear. Go online and shop around.

Good question!

Yes, we would be more likely to overlook it if it looks like a pretty beaded Bracelet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
