Gas-X strips in Australia?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

So I'm trying to get ready for my surgery next month and according to most post surgery patients, Gas-X strips are a must have, however, I cant seem to find any here in Australia. I can get the gel caps or the tabs, but not the strips! I tried to get some shipped in but they want to charge me over $79 for 18 strips plus postage!!!!! :o Does anyone know where I can find them in Australia, or any other suggestions or an alternative product to use? And if not, can I use the gel caps or tabs after surgery?

You won't need them, the gas that you will have will not be moved by the gas strips. Walking is what it is going to take to get rid of the gas after surgery. If you need anything else the hospital will give you something for it.

I got the strips and they did nothing. I preferred the tabs. They chew up and go down just fine and seemed to work better. ;)

I used them and they were helpful for me. You can just as easily get another medication with simethicone in it. Maalox makes one. They even have liquid formulations for kids. Just look for simethicone as an active ingredient.

If you can't get the strips, other types of Gas X will be fine. BTW, did you try Amazon?

its not the same kind of gas that gas-x treats. so it wont help. its just surgical gas that needs to be walked-out and absorbed by your body.

People say use Gas X strips, but it's a total myth. The gas you are trying to expel after surgery is in your chest cavity, not in your new tummy. The absolute ONLY way to get rid of it is to walk.

Good luck.

I had major gI distress after surgery for 3-4 days. I got quite gassy and it was painful. I would burp or shart and feel better. Yes....i said shart on purpose. It was fun fun! I have had that problem in the past if I've been on a liquid diet and I think I just produce a ton of gas until I get real food in my system! As soon as I started puréeds yesterday the gas went away! I also had the gas pains from the surgery itself that the gas x won't work! But that wasn't the kind of gas that was painful to me comparatively. The gas ex made my life a little better.

Thank you all for your help, I'll just walk , walk and walk some more ;) . I will get a few of the tabs to crush up if I need them, but it's a relief to know they aren't as important as I thought they were.

I found walking was absolutely the best, but also used dissolvable Dulce-Gas crystals from Terry White pharmacy probably other Chemists here on Oz too. They did help me during the night so I had one sachet 1 hour before bed. Saying that though I only used them for three nights.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
