A question about a pre-op condition!

Recommended Posts

So I had cubital tunnel syndrome on my left arm and had never repositiong surgery done in December to elevate that issue. I already had carpal tunnel in my right hand but the past 3 days this has gotten worse and the pain has gone up my arm and feels similar to my previous condition, just the other arm. Ice and not using it helps but its constant nerve tingle, numbness and pain I have. I will be banded on Thursday morning and wondering should I just wait it out until afterwords next week or try to get in to see the hand specialist before surgery. At this point I am not sure if there is anything to relieve the pain except for time or surgery in the near future for it. It has become a huge bother as I have one more project to complete before I have surgery this week. What do you guys think, call or just wait until next week (post-surgery)?

Sending best wishes your way. Hand pain is no fun! Is there some one you can discuss this with, like a primary care provider who knows the situation and can help put the pieces together and set a timetable? There are so many factors -- PT, pain medication, being out of work for recovery, etc. Also I'm wondering if the positioning on the table could aggravate the condition or at least be something they should be aware of -- I have no idea but worth noting. Or maybe the anesthesia will be a welcome relief! Sidebar: if you take pain medication be sure to address Constipation as a major side effect of narcotics, otherwise you'll have three issues: the regular recovery, hand pain and bathroom trouble! Talk it through with your medical professionals -- we can sympathize but of course we are just a bunch of well-meaning strangers on the internet. Good luck with everything and congratulations on choosing yourself and your healthy future -- keep us posted!

Something like this could raise your blood pressure and they could cancel your surgery if it's too high? Take care of it or at the very least, contact your surgeons and let them know?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
