Can't eat deli sliced turkey?

Recommended Posts

I expected to not be able to eat bread, rice, and Pasta. I even thought chicken breast and certain veggies would be off the menu.

But lunchmeat?

I can eat the chicken, broccolli, even bread but one bite of lunch meat (by itself) causes an immediate golf ball in my chest.

The band is a fickle fickle thing.

I can only eat deli turkey if I get the cheaper, moister turkey directly from the deli. Never had a problem with roast beef though... maybe try that?

I dont really eat deli meat anyway, I dont like it. I dont like the thought of what's been done to it and I particularly loathe ham.

But I cant eat it either, it causes me discomfort too. And I can eat bread!

One of the other really weird things I cant eat is any processed Breakfast Cereal like Cornflakes or Rice Bubbles. It just will not go down. Yet you'd think they'd almost be a mushy wouldnt you? Heavy muesli or oatmeal, no problem but rice bubbles, no way. Not good for me anyway, just processed sugary carbs.

I think its the same thing - little bubbles of rice that go snap crackle pop?

Yeah! That's it! Rice Crispies. Yum! I like a few Rice Crispies with my sugar. It's about the only time I put sugar on Cereal.< /p>

I get the deli to shave the chicken breasts so that they are falling apart thin, then I make chicken salad out of it. The ham and roast beef don't shave the same way.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
