So, I was sleeved on April 25th. I've drank only Water since then- no juice & of course- no food.< /p>

Today is the day that I begin my smoothies & nutritious drinks.. I made a smoothie this morning with only frozen fruit & water. But it made me have bad stomach pain & diarrhea.

Has this happened to anyone else?!!!

Get use to the diarrhea, until you can eat normal food again your stools will be like this. As for the stomach pain, your healing still. I have felt stomach pain too. Not often and I haven't felt it for over a month now. Relax and take care of yourself. If the pain persists, then you need to go to the doctor. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that! I was the opposite spectrum in that I hadn't pooped in a week and nothing was working!! I had surgery on the 21st of April and am NOT allowed fruits yet. Having Protein Drinks (I mix the boxed sweet ones with 1 cup of milk and Protein Powder and then have that throughout the days. And chicken and vegetable broth (which I add unsweetened Unjury Protein powder to if I need more protein) Check with your surgeons office and make sure you are having exactly what they want you to have. I had a restaurant Soup strained week one and think it had too much fat because after two teaspoonsfuls I got sweaty and nausea's and that lasted for 2 days!! UGH. Good luck!! It's going to be SO WORTH IT!!

You need Protein for your body to heal from this surgery. Didn't your surgeon give you any instructions about what to eat following surgery? I had Protein drinks on day 3. The best Protein Drink I have found for me is Premier and you can buy it at costco.

When you progress to soft foods, I ate cottage cheese, Greek yogurt fortified with unflavored Protein Powder, and Protein shakes. I am almost a year post surgery and I still have one Protein shake a day so that I can get my 60 grams of Protein in each day.

I also suggest using My Fitness Pal to track everything you eat. It will tell you how many calories and grams of protein you have eaten in a day and track your Water intake too. I suspect that the fruit is what caused the stomach pain and diarrhea, go back to dairy products and that should be kinder to your stomach.

Good luck, congrats on taking the first steps in the weight loss journey!

Hi Mrs. Fox, we almost share a "surgiversary." I was sleeved three years ago on 4/26/11! Congratulations on your surgery, but sorry you're not doing well right now. But VERY IMPORTANT--if you are not clear on exactly what you are supposed to be having for your nutrition in these next few critical healing days, call your surgeon's office as many times as you need to. Protein and Water are the most critical things you need to have right now, ESPECIALLY if you are having diarrhea. You can get dehydrated very easily right now, and you defininitey DO NOT WANT THAT or you will quickly end up back in the hospital.

Take good care of yourself, and try to be patient. Every day will get better and better. Keep us posted. There are so many people on this forum who care!

Hi guys! Maybe I didn't provide enough detail. My week 1- which was last week consisted of only Water. As many bottles as I cld get in a day. I was allowed to have sugar free juice & broth like Soups.. But I don't eat broth & the juices were too sweet tasting. So I only drank the Water. On the list my doctors office gave me, I was NOT to have any Protein shakes etc until week 2...Now -Week 2, starts off the Protein Shakes & powders, etc. I was totally sick ALL day from the 1 sip of smoothie..UUGH! :(... But I tomorrow is another day, right? I'm gonna go to GNC & try my best to find a Protein powder that doesn't taste like vomit...Wish me luck!

P.S. You guys are all AWESOME :)

A fruit smoothie is very high in sugar and would have gone straight through your stomach to your intestines, potentially causing dumping syndrome. Try something much less sweet.

I completely agree with Mrs Havelock, smoothies are very high in sugar. I would probably steer clear of those for now. My NUT told me that is a quick way to gain weight because you don't realize the calorie and sugar intake on those. I hope you feel better and find the right combo of food for yourself. There are boards here with great food ideas for each stage post op that you can should check out...I know that helped me out SO MUCH when I didn't know what else to eat. Good Luck!

Not sure you should be having fruit in a smoothie either. We were told to wait 3 months for fruit. Just keep up the broths, strained Soups, SF popsicles. We have been where you are and done all this. Best of luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
