Amusement Park Rides

Recommended Posts

I was banded March 22, I am going to Disneyland this weekend. Does anyone know if you can ride any rides so soon after surgery?

Personally I would take it very easy, and stay on casual rides, like "It's a Small World" or "Pirates of the Caribbean"---ones you simply sit it, that don't have a lot of jostling, or bars across your stomach. I have been to Disneyland several times, and I feel like there will be enough things you CAN do to make the ones I would NOT attempt not seem like such a loss. I would also plan several breaks, find some shade, and sit while they ride something wilder, and you can people watch, and rest a bit. Remember to keep a bottle of water---maybe one of the Protein waters, and sip on it steadily! Dehydration can make you feel horrid! Try not to overdo---but doing things like this is why we got the band---just this early out, do it with care---and start planning another trip for a year from now, and plan on riding EVERYTHING!!!

Have lotsa fun!!!

9 weeks post-op, I was doing all the coasters. I did 5 days at Disney World exactly 9 weeks post-op. I was still a bit tired, and needed to take breaks several times a day but I made it the entire time with no problems. I would be more concerned about being able to find food there. I would like to suggest a Dole Whip if they have them in Disneyland, they do in Disney World, they are pineapple frozen goodness. ~Mandy

Just got back from Disneyland- Great time. I didnt "hurt" from rides like I did when heavy, I guess the tightness of the seat belts and grip bars made it worse. I had a tt & bl about 3 months ago, and did feel alittle "rattled around" but that was at California Days. DO NOT DO THE HOTEL HORROR!!! Major scarry ride drops you like 14 floors then up for more- yikes- I puked alot. not a good ride. good laugh for my family but not fun for me!

Have a great trip, enjoy the weather and kiss Mickey!

Mema, you are pretty new so I would take it easy. I am 10 months post op and just rode the roller coasters yesterday with my son. It was so nice to fit. Disneyland really cares about their customers. It is so nice they accomodate larger frames. Even at 300 lbs I fit in all the rides. Julie

I went last weekend with some of my fiance, his sister in law and her daughters. He and I spent most of our time walking around and checking stuff out, we didn't actually ride many rides and still had a great time. Pirates has been update to go with the movies and whatnot, and they've updated the technology in the haunted house since the last time I was there I think. My future niece-in-law is 12, but wouldn't even ride a ferris wheel, so she walked around alot with us the next day when we went to California Adventure, because there are more coasters n' stuff there. There's a Monster's Inc ride that's pretty calm and your grandson might like.

Check out www.allearsnet.com it is a total Disney site, there are tons of great tips for both land and world. I use it to make all my plans. She has height requirements, ride descriptions, menus, and some suggestions for guests with disabilites, I would look at this like a bad back or heart problem, you are facing the same restrictions, no big bumps, drops or coaster type rides. ~Mandy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
