I have a son with autism. I had my come to Jesus monument and wanted to live longer too! One year ago on May 1st I had my surgery. 135lbs (310 down to 175) no type II meds any more and other meds. Go for it it's worth the risk. You risk dying more the longer you carry the weight. Maybe you even want another child? You want a life? Then take the tools you can get and change your life. I work overnight so eating like the rest of the world is not an option all the time. Live for your self and your family. You will be happy that you did!

There have been so many posts lately about whether to tell or not. I've said it before and I'll say it again.... When people start paying my bills they can start having a say in my life. Till then it really is none of their business. I just wanted to save myself some hassle and not deal with any negativity or stress from people I don't care about. I told my husband and daughter because they live with me and were the ones looking after me in the hospital. My son lives in Tennessee so I did not feel any reason to tell him as he wouldn't be involved in the surgery, the recovery or my daily eating plan. He will just be happy to see me thinner and healthier for mother's day. I only took 4 days off from work so there was no curiosity about where I had been or anything. I just don't feel this is something I need to share with co=workers, neighbors or church members. I have told the people I want to know so I don't have to worry about who knows what or who has told who. Its just not an issue. I'm happy with my decision and you have to make the decision that you know you will be happiest with. Just remember, once the genie is out of the bottle you can't put him back in.

I'm having my surgery June 9. I have told a few people in my inner circle and regret it! My best friend was appalled! I'm so

Sorry I told anyone other than my husband.

I think it's a shame that people couldn't feel comfortable about telling others about their big decision. I think I must have been very fortunate because all of my family, friends, and coworkers have been very supportive. For those of you who find more negative people, tell them to go carry a 50lb bag of dog food around a grocery store and to keep their mouths shut.

There is nothing easy about any of this. I choose to only tell select people because I didn't want to hear that type of crap from people.

It's not EASY having surgery. It's not EASY to learn to eat healthy after not eating healthy all your life.

Tell those that you can trust and will be supportive in your journey. You are showing a lot of strength and courage to do this!!

Hi All!!! People can be evil!!! even Love ones!!!! I have type 2 diabetes, kidney issues, liver issues, and I'm 33. I want to LIVE LONGER for my husband and child. I will do this surgery no matter what!! But why do folks feel the need to say

" Oh you taking the EASY WAY OUT" ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! That strikes a nerve in the worst way!!!!

Is it really the easy way...because last I checked being overweight since I was 5 has been difficult! Having any surgery is not a walk at the park....especially recuperating... Having this disease is NOT AT ALL EASY!!!! if LOSING WEIGHT AND EATING HABITS would disappear than fine that would be easy but it's NOT!

This time around I'm hesitant to tell folks what I'm doing because of the STUPID comments......

Your thoughts please!!!

What I find is, most of these people who tell you it's just calories in and calories out, never really struggled with their weight. If they gain 5lbs., it's traumatic and that's their struggle with weight. I have a brother in law I'm not telling until the last moment, he's the most narcisistic person I know. Even if I had a body of Adonis, he would still find the need to express his own vanity. In the end, it's my health not his, if my life improves because I finally faced my weaknesses and made a tough decision, then I reap the rewards and a greater wisdom.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
