My love for food---Hopeing it changes!

Recommended Posts

I love so many different foods and love to eat! That's most of my problem I guess!!! I am hopeing that my desire to eat all the time goes away after surgery!!! Does it??? Decided on the Sleeve. Praying that I don't desire food as much after! All input is greatly appreciated!!!

Oh yes, that desire will definitely go away. You won't feel 'as hungry' as you used to pre-sleeve, and when you are, you're just not able to eat as much as you used to. Your tummy is much, much smaller & can't handle as much food.

But, remember, this is still a tool to help you with your weight loss, so you do have to work at it. You'll need to stay focused, and pre-plan your meals. It does take some getting used to, but you can do it!

Best of luck!

I had a gastric bypass almost a year ago. After the surgery, my constantly nagging hunger disappeared overnight. It was not difficult to lose weight when I was no longer hungry. On the other hand, foods also lost their taste. Before surgery, I loved the taste of food. But how could one enjoy eating when foods no longer have any taste.

I figured a method of putting taste back into food, which seemed to work for me. If after surgery, you experience the same loss of taste, you might want to take a look at How I Survived Bariatric Surgery available at http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

No no...you have it wrong. There's nothing wrong with loving food or loving to eat. The problem is we don't know when to stop. Once you have control over that, you won't mind that you still love food or love to eat. Believe me...I still love food...always will. And I love to eat. I love good food and it's still my favorite way to socialize. But I'm satisfied with just a fraction of what I ate before and being able to walk away from the table knowing I was always in control of the food and not the other way around, is an amazing feeling.

Here's hoping you reach this awareness and find great success. Good luck to you!

Sorry to be contrite, but, you're preaching to the choir here. 99.9% of the thousands of forum members here love food too. But, 95% +/- love our new skinny/overweight(not obese) bodies.

It must be the type of WLS. I'm banded 7 weeks out and food tastes great. I just get satisfied on way less. Perfect for me. And all I gave up was NSAIDs, carbonation and cut way back on caffeinated coffee.< /p>

I still love food, I just find it easier to make choices. Yesterday, we were on the road and I had made up my mind I was going to stop at Braums and have a butter pecan ice cream cone. Never mind that I had some brisket from lunch left over that I had not been able to eat. I was forty miles from the town where Braums was and in that distance I scolded myself just a little for being willing to throw caution to the wind so easily and praised myself on how proud of myself I was for having lost so well and ended up eating my brisket instead. Didn't even want the ice cream after that. I was so proud of myself. You won't necessarily lose your love for food, but who wants to?

Nope, I didn't lose my love for food, but I feel I have CONTROL now. I do still think about food a lot, but instead of planning a binge, i am focusing on smart meal planning for me that will still taste good, but will fit into my calorie goals. Pre-op I could never conceive of being satisfied with 800 calories of food.

For me it hasn't changed at all! I still love food and I'm afraid I'm always going to have this love/hate relationship with it!

I still love food and think about food a lot, however it is easier to just have a little or just walk away. I also found recently while on a road trip that I didn't want to stop and eat all the time which was nice. Sometimes when I'm hungry and thinking about all the food I want I eat something small like a cheese stick and then I am satisfied. It really is amazing.

Love for food will not change but the hunger will and you will have more control over it. Actually your taste buds will also change. For example, I had a teaspoon of ice cream and I didn't like the taste cause it was too sweet for me. And I still prefer my sugar free Popsicles. Would I have ice cream again? Sure, probably the sugar free or might have it in low sugar. I even tried a thin crust slice of veggie pizza today which took me an hr to finish and I didn't have the end crust and I was satisfied. Would I want another slice? Maybe but def not for a while. And I am 5.5 weeks out and had a gastric bypass. So for my cravings I do taste things but I don't like them as much as I did before surgery. Even with milk, I used to love drinking it before surgery, I would have 1-2% and I tried that's after my surgery as well as skim and I still can not get used to it so I switched to almond milk. So this surgery really helps you stay focused and yes you can try all your fav stuff again but might not like it anymore like you used to before surgery. Good luck and this is the right thing you are doing for yourself and your health!

as everyone stated, things will change, as your way of thinking should change... somethings will lose their appeal for you...somethings you will have to WORK at staying away from... trigger foods, etc... but all in all, it is a very helpful tool!

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
