Why am I nervous/scared about getting a fill?

Recommended Posts

I've been filled before, lost some weight, then lost restriction. Because of various factors (moving across the country, not having a doctor pn the east coast yet, not having a job and therefore living on a tight budget, and then the worst--my dad dying), weight loss hasn't been as much of a priority the past six months as it could have been. So I have been at a plateau for 6 months.

Finally, I'm going in next week to get a fill. For some reaosn I feel so nervous though!

I guess I'm worried that the doctor will do it too tight, or not tight enough, then I'll have to get adjusted right away again (and pay $ again). I couldn't find any doctor in my area to do the fill under fluoroscopy for a reasonable price, so I'm doing it without fluoro.

Anyone else ever felt scared about getting a fill?

I guess I'm just nervous about what to expect after a "blind" fill.

I've had a fill with flouro and a fill without flouro and both went just fine.

This might sound odd, but I would almost prefer a fill without flouro. In my case, the flouro showed me closed up when I didn't feel closed up so I feel that I received a conservative fill amount. If the doctor has you drink some Water during the adjustment and has you tell him how you're feeling, then you might get a better fill in my opinion. Anyway, that's how it worked for me.

Hopefully your doctor would give you a fill at no charge if it's not enough and you come back within a certain period of time. You might want to ask him.

Good luck with everything :)

My surgeon never does fills under fluoroscopy, unless he suspects there's a reason it's needed. I've never had a problem getting a "blind fill", because even though it can't be seen, it can be felt. I don't work in the field so I can't say for sure, but he has been very detailed in desscribing how the resistance on the syringe helps indicate fill level to him (remember, the saline is under pressure - when the port is hit, you can have a little geyser in the syringe). And a lot of it is hit or miss. But I think this would also be true for fluroscopy. It only shows what's going on that particular moment in time. Sometimes I'm just tighter than others. I figure odds are about even that I could have a "tight day" under fluoroscopy and look like I'm adequately filled, and need a fill 2 weeks later... or I could have the same fill without fluoroscopy and need the same fill 2 weeks later.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
