Help with going back to night shift after surgery

Recommended Posts

OK so I'm a nurse and I work the night shift. Three nights a week for 12 hours each. I go back to work Monday and I'm wondering how anyone else after surgery faired when returning to night shift after surgery? How did you keep your energy up? I used to drink one diet mountain dew a night but now we obviously can't. I haven't tried coffee again yet and I know caffeine is frowned upon. Help!

Dreading go back to work almost. .work 12 hrs shift. .I decided to part time when I return. .night shift starting to take a toll on me. Plus the weird sleeping pattern mess with biological internal clock..and working night shift ages people fast. that's what I was told and I feel old..not even 40yrs old. Plus during my psychological evaluation the therapist also mentioned how weight and health affects us working night shift. And I should look in the near future to switch to day shift. I know that, but when he mentioned it ..it really confirmed it for me.

I work nights also, and I'm a nurse. I've had no problem so far, even without caffeine. I walk around a lot! I returned to work 4 days after surgery.

I work 6p-6a as well. I have returned to coffee and non-carbonated Monster for caffeine, but have noticed that McD's unsweetened iced tea will help as well. I keep my lunch box full of high Protein Snacks (beef Jerky, Quest bars, hard-boiled eggs, string cheese) and make sure meals have good protein, too. I will use celery with cream cheese for a "side dish" sometimes for crunch. I noticed my weight loss has slowed some since returning to work, but because I work at least one day shift each week, I think my body is still adjusting. 45 pounds in three months is not amazing weight loss, but is way better than anything pre-sleeve.

I was out for a little over 4 weeks. I do a lot of lifting and pulling and pushing and tugging as a nurse and you aren't supposed to maneuver over 20lbs so that's why I was off for so long. Do you have a sedentary job or do you walk around a lot? I had pain on the left side in the biggest incision for a couple of weeks especially when bending or twisting. Just be really careful. I still have a hard time drinking as much as i should.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
