Exercise Bikes

Recommended Posts

I've been looking to buy an exercise bike. I am debating between a sit down one or the upright version - both are in the $200 range.

Does anyone else here own an exercise bike? How well does it work for you??

Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks

I suggest you ""Try it before you buy it" . I have one. I don't use it much, because the seat is so uncomfortable that once I get on, I need to sit on a pillow, and when I get off my butt hurts so bad I can't sit down. :omg: I use the ones at the gym where you sit behind the pedals - the seat is much more comfortable...

I have the sit-down type of bike ..... it has a full sized seat (lord knows i need that!! HAHA) with a back rest. I love it. I also find it painful to use the other type of bike... the narrow seat is a killer!

I have the recumbant bike also and really like it. The other bikes are way toi hard on me and this one actually feels good on my back. I bought mine on Amazon for about 150 and got free shipping. Overstock had some at good prices also. On nights we can't walk the dog I ride the bike- gives me excersize - doesn't do a thing for the dog!

Ohh thanks! I think i will check out Amazon and Overstock.

I was walking my dog every day but the damn new england weather is toying with me. I need something for inside the house. Besides my dog is lazy and gives up after circling the block a couple of times. He keeps pulling me towards the house.. And he's tiny!

I am also looking for a bike. I have a bad knee and wonder if I would be able to use this. I need something to work out my upper arms (Wings under the arms). This is about as cheap as I have seen. I wish they had them in the store so you could try them out. Let me know when you receive it and how you llike it. Thanks!

There are definitely stores where you can try out bikes! Sears where I live sells them, for example, and sometimes you can find a store that sells nothing but exercise equipment -- though those tend to go out of business a lot.

For a bad knee, you should stick to a lower level of resistance, but also you might want to check out an elliptical as they are lower-impact than the bike. Even though you don't pound with a bike, they can definitely work your knees, I have found.

We have stores around here called "Play it again Sports" where you can pick up used equipment. I highly recommend getting exercise equipment like this used as most of the time the equipment has barely been used and costs significantly less than buying new.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
