Just watched his show on lap bands. Anyone else see it. He's touting it for people 40 pounds overweight. And he didn't even mention complications. I'm so livid. It was such a poorly researched segment. I actually refuse to watch him anymore and switched over to Ellen while im working out.

Wow -- I don't know of any medical research that has advocated a lap band for someone with only 40 pounds to lose.

I stopped watching his show a long time ago because it's like a big long commercial for the latest and greatest diet pill or weight loss method. He probably got paid to do a lap band segment by one of the companies that make them.

This episode doesn't run here till 4 pm and I'm also recording it.

There was an article on his website from Dr. George Fielding that speaks positively on the band.

I recorded it and watched it. I have never watched his show because I don't like his stance on weight loss. I was kind of shocked at the 40 pound loss being good for weight loss. But it wasn't the weight loss that he was really talking about, he was more for it making people healthier and either not taking meds or coming off of the meds they were on. I think he did a pretty good job at explaining it.

One time I was at Weight Watchers and there was a girl there that wanted to lose 21 pounds. She took a beating from others in the room. I finally stopped everyone and explained to them that her 21pounds was just as important to her as my 150 pounds to lose was to me. If someone needs to lose 40 pounds to make them selves healthier and feel better, then more power to them. I advocate what ever you need to do to lose the weight, then I am proud of you.

The lap band is approved for a BMI of 30 or above. Doesn't mean insurance will approve the surgery at that but that's the FDA limit.

I didn't see it. I'm tired of dr. Oz. He contradicts himself too much that I don't want to listen in the first place. I might try to find it for curiosity's sake.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
