Leena 108 Posted May 2, 2014 Just watched his show on lap bands. Anyone else see it. He's touting it for people 40 pounds overweight. And he didn't even mention complications. I'm so livid. It was such a poorly researched segment. I actually refuse to watch him anymore and switched over to Ellen while im working out.
Ginger Snaps 1,323 Posted May 2, 2014 Wow -- I don't know of any medical research that has advocated a lap band for someone with only 40 pounds to lose. I stopped watching his show a long time ago because it's like a big long commercial for the latest and greatest diet pill or weight loss method. He probably got paid to do a lap band segment by one of the companies that make them. 1 betty_s reacted to this

2muchfun 8,927 Posted May 2, 2014 This episode doesn't run here till 4 pm and I'm also recording it. There was an article on his website from Dr. George Fielding that speaks positively on the band. http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/latest-lap-band
Suziecat 379 Posted May 3, 2014 I recorded it and watched it. I have never watched his show because I don't like his stance on weight loss. I was kind of shocked at the 40 pound loss being good for weight loss. But it wasn't the weight loss that he was really talking about, he was more for it making people healthier and either not taking meds or coming off of the meds they were on. I think he did a pretty good job at explaining it. One time I was at Weight Watchers and there was a girl there that wanted to lose 21 pounds. She took a beating from others in the room. I finally stopped everyone and explained to them that her 21pounds was just as important to her as my 150 pounds to lose was to me. If someone needs to lose 40 pounds to make them selves healthier and feel better, then more power to them. I advocate what ever you need to do to lose the weight, then I am proud of you. 1 2muchfun reacted to this
kimk1999 450 Posted May 3, 2014 The lap band is approved for a BMI of 30 or above. Doesn't mean insurance will approve the surgery at that but that's the FDA limit. I didn't see it. I'm tired of dr. Oz. He contradicts himself too much that I don't want to listen in the first place. I might try to find it for curiosity's sake. 1 Suziecat reacted to this
