Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm in the very beg stage of this process. Weight has always been a problem for me. I'm at a point where I need some advise on getting banned.

Please help!

If you go to the top or bottom of this page on a PC, click on the surgeon button and search for surgeons in your area. Check out their websites and go to as many seminars as you can so that you find the doctor you can feel comfortable with. When you visit the office pay attention to how the staff behaves and how they treat you.

Aftercare is as important as the surgery itself and you don't want to get stuck with a group that's going to treat you like you're a bother.

Check out some of the support group meetings before you have surgery. Some doctors are backing off of the band so if it's the band you want, you're going to have to screen your doctors well.

Keep reading this site. Good luck.

I say go for it! It is a great thing! BUT...It is not a solution, it is a tool. You have to change your eating habits & exercise. It is possible to gain the weight back in you don't eat right & exercise. I got to a point where I was eating a little more & a little more & over time I was able to eat as much as I did before my band (of certain foods.) I've gained a considerable amount back and I am truly miserable right now. But it's my own fault! Good luck!!

It took me at least a year to fully commit to WLS. I made up my mind in June of 2013 and was banded on March 20, 2014. So far I have lost 26 lbs and couldnt be happier. I have not had any problems and dont anticipate any. Good luck in your decision.

What kind of advice are you looking for Sunshine? We can't tell you what to do..only you can decide whether or not you want surgery. If you have specific questions, please feel free to ask. There are plenty of folks on this forum happy to respond.

Thanks for the feedback all....I've been doing some online research and looking at the different forms on here. Planning to attend a seminar in a few weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
