Almost 10 months out and having trouble losing weight

Recommended Posts

I've only lost 11 lbs since January and I still have about 50 to go! I eat about 1000-1200 calories per day and work out 5x per week. I slack a lot on my Water, but other then that I do everything I'm supposed to! Haven't lost a single pound in almost 6 weeks! Help!

all of the research i have done (as an amateur online researcher), points to slowed metabolism, usually due to not enough calories, fat, Protein, carbs, micronutrients, Water, exercise or a combination of all of the above.

the only way to really figure it out is to list out all the factors and how much of each you usually get (like tracking daily for a week or two) and then playing with each factor one at a time to see what affects your weight. i would start with seeing how getting 80 ounces of Water affects you. (that would be the most obvious place to start)

each person is different. each of us have different levels of hormones, inflammation, and presurgical damage to our metabolism. (and most importantly, genes) so you will need to look at it as an experiment and investigate what is working and not working for you. once you figure this out, you will know what the key is for you to increase your metabolism.

there is no magic answer for everyone, but there are ways to figure it out for you.

Great advise! I'm going to try that method of determining how I can try to prevent a stall in weight loss also, thanks!

I will probably be the minority opinion here, but I know for me I could not lose weight eating 1000 cal. I only lose if I'm somewhere between seven and 800 cal, and even at that I don't lose very much. I wonder if it would help to reduce calories and see if that helps?

But you also said you work out. It's possible that your net calories may already be at 700 to 800 after you take into account what you burn. In that case ignore me :-)

what do your macros for Protein fat and carbs look like?

After exercise I'm usually netting 200-400 calories. Here's a sample menu

Breakfast: cottage cheese and a cup of coffee

Snack: hard boiled eggs (2) with hot sauce

Lunch: salad with cucumber, deli meat and ranch dressing

Snack: cheese and a vegetable

Dinner: Protein and veggie with a little starch (rice/pasta/potato)

I eat 1000-1300 and my exercise burns 750-900

yeah that seems pretty low. VERY low. LEt's say your exercise machine is wrong in it's estimation and you are only burning 500 (because they often over-estimate). That still puts you at 500 calories or so which is low. Would you be comfortable trying to increase by 100 calories for a week to see what it does? Might be worth it.

def slowing your metabolism by not eating enough calories. start adding in calories until you start losing again, then you will know how much you need to eat so you can lose. i am amazed you are feeling okay, and not having physical issues with eating so few calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
