banded on 4/24/14 after a lifetime of struggles

Recommended Posts

hi, im sean im 25 years old and have struggled with my weight forever.

when I was 19 I was at my heaviest weight around 445 I was in terrible shape and hated myself and didn't really care if I lived or died.

so I made a decision to lose the weight, at this time in my life i was caring for my grandparents who were both ill, my grandfather of cancer,

so I stayed with them and cooked cleaned and managed all their business/finances and appts. during this time I had plenty of time to eat clean and go to the gym sometimes twice a day 6 days a week. in 2 years time I managed to lose 147 lbs !! my lightest weight ever 298!! I felt awesome. this was near being skinny for me keep in mind im 6'6 I swore to myself I would never go back to morbid obesity.

So by that time my grandfather had passed and my grandmother was doing good so I had to get back to the real world and start back up my college classes and go to work I got a third shift job and worked it for the next several years....fast forward I got married and had a son and let myself go so nearing my heaviest weight again I decided to get the lap band. I was banded last week 4/24/14 after months of running around and dealing with my insurance company ive lost fifteen lbs in one week

so now im looking forward to getting the weight off and keeping it off forever!!!!

You've lost the weight before, so you know you can be successful at weight loss. Once you get there, hopefully the lap band will be the difference in keeping it off. That and a lifestyle change. I'm on the same journey. I've lost before. This is the time when I've chosen to change my lifestyle. I want to be healthy and feel feel good. You're so young, I'm proud of you for taking control of your life. You seem so mature, helping others, putting yourself aside for a while. Now is your time. I wish you so much success.

You've sure been through a lot, Sean. Nice that you could take care of your grandparents who needed you. But now is YOUR time!!

Congrats on losing 15 lbs. already!!

I lost 25 lbs on the liver shrinking diet and then 15 lbs since my surgery in February. I haven't gotten my first fill yet, tho. That will be May 12th so I'm looking forward to losing more after that.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
