BRG 39 Posted May 2, 2014 I'm so sick of reading that. Thank your surgeon, the surgical staff, the person that came up with the concept of the gastric sleeve, etc.! 1 MN_Thin0211 reacted to this

If it wasn't for u r surgeon they would never have the sleeve! I can't wait to be able to thank my surgeon 1 BRG reacted to this
WhoKnows 288 Posted May 2, 2014 I agree. There are medical/biological reasons beyond our control regarding why most people are unable to lose weight without the medical intervention of WLS, but it's all our own willpower and drive that allows us to make the decision to finally have it done, and it's thanks to our surgeons and ourselves that we're successful. Thanking God absolves you of any stake in your own wellbeing and doesn't give credit where credit is do. (Of course some people say "Thanks God!" rhetorically, but that's clearly different.) 2 Ava324 and BRG reacted to this
fezik23 240 Posted August 11, 2014 Just like a pro football player thanking god for a touchdown. It's silly and illogical, and if there were such a god, would he have nothing better to do than deliver touchdowns (or Oscars, etc.)?
johnsydney 65 Posted September 26, 2014 It's like if someone has a touch of reflux or something and people are like "I'll pray for you" ! Please don't waste your time lol if I cared enough I'd take offence when people say it to me !!!
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted October 6, 2014 Free speech and expression is a right we all enjoy. So I'm thinking of responding to some of the overt religious proselyizing around here in signature blocks with this addition to my own signature block: "I prefer that you not share your religious beliefs with me. Thank you for your consideration."
fezik23 240 Posted October 7, 2014 I saw a bumper sticker that said "don't assume I share your prejudices."
PaulaleeB 88 Posted February 8, 2015 Personally, I thank the scientists and pioneering surgeons who came up with this option. I also thank the surgeons who worked to make this surgery laparoscopic and in the case of my well trained surgeon, utilizing robotic equipment. My recovery was so easy and for that I am thankful....but not to God.

Please don't waste your time lol if I cared enough I'd take offence when people say it to me !!! Meh. I'm not religious but I'm not offended by prayers. I appreciate the intention behind the words so I leave it at that.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted February 9, 2015 I probably shouldn't respond to this since I am Christian but I couldn't resist. Quite a few surgeons really believe they are "god" so it could still be accurate even if you don't believe in God.
StephaC 7 Posted February 22, 2015 I can't believe this group exists! I've been scanning through other forums like "geez, who are these people?!"

DroppinLikeItsHot 52 Posted February 22, 2015 I'm thankful for God for keeping me safe and never leaving my side. I'm also thankful for my surgeon and hospital staff. To me - saying thanks does not need to be mutually exclusive.

StephaC 7 Posted February 22, 2015 I can't believe there is an agnostic/atheist sub-forum. This is the first I've ever look through extensively.
