Three Year Follow Up Apptl

Recommended Posts

I think people who revise when they are very close to goal weight lose very slowly and are often disappointed. I had 100% EWL too and I know that is not typical for either virgin or revision sleevers who start at a 50+ BMI. However, I also know that revision people typically lose way more than 10# so that seems like a strange statement is all.

Anyway, good info, thanks for sharing!!!

Maybe the issue is going from RNY to DS OR the issue is 10% more, not 10 pounds more?

Surgeon did say specifically 10 lbs., not 10%. That's the average they see with revisions. But Kaise only does revisions for complications such as GERD and ulcers, not for unsatifactory weight loss. However, some people getting revisions have had unsatisfactory weight loss, in addition to the complication that led to the revision surgery. I don't think they do band to sleeve revisions. It's more sleeve to RNY to treat GERD or revision of an existing sleeve or RNY to treat ulcers.

Ah ok. That would make some sense then. I'd have to look up to see what happened with Obesity Surgery if there is anything in there.

Thank you, Lynda for the great post. I've been away from BP for awhile and hopped on to do some research regarding ulcers. I was also sleeved through Kaiser but changed insurance. :( I didn't know they did revisions for ulcers, nor did I know that ulcers were a long term effect. OR I did know and simply forgot. Either way- thanks for the post!

Yes, I am 3.5 years out! Wahoo! I am struggling a bit after regaining some weight over the summer and slacking off over the recent holdiays. I'm 10 lbs. over goal. I'm still in the normal BMI range, but I'm trying 5:2 to get rid of the regain.

I'm also still wearing the same jeans, but with the extra pounds, they are snug!

Looking forward to getting back to goal. You can follow my progress on the 5:2 thread in the Vet's Forum. I'll be posting there every Monday with a weight check and report about the previous week.

I love life post-op. Still feeling great!

Lynda

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
