Hello everyone. I had my surgery on April 1st. After two weeks I went for an update with my doctor. Oddly he cleared me to work out a train after two weeks. Thankfully I had family & friends who had this bariatric sleeve surgery the same one that I did. They were there for moral support and any questions or concerns I had. They told me not to work out after two weeks and wait up to six weeks. While I was having side pains from nerve muscles, I scheduled an appointment with the doctor two weeks later which made it a month from the day of surgery. He told me work out it was okay and take a painkiller if you're still having their pains. Not my pain is gone, so I started working out normally, yesterday was chest day, so I was benching 150 I usually bench 275 to 300. Well now my stomach is in severe pain and I am concerned. Can anyone give me some insight. I am new on this application. So I hope I am commenting in the correct subject

Go to the doctor. I hope you haven't broken/ busted some internal staples.

I called the Dr, he said take it easy and go light when working out. He said I am fine. That's what doesn't make sense. This Dr is known to be one of the top surgens in Michigan.

In addition, I was told by the Dr that it is my stomach muscles that are in pain. I guess my concern is why the Dr seems to take this lightly.

I would insist that he check you out or go to see your primary doctor and have them run tests to see if you did any damage.

I really think your surgeon is not on the ball about this.

If you can't get any relief from the pain meds then take a trip to the emergency room where they can start the process of finding out if everything is okay.

Good luck.

If your uncomfortable with you drs suggestion, you should seek a 2nd opinion. My drs instructions were no lifting for 6 weeks after surgery, but he wanted me doing light cardio and walking 30-60 mins per day right after surgery.

Best of luck to you

I was cleared to do anything after 4 wks. I am a quick healer .. but ... my surgeon said if it hurts then don't do it !!! Revisit the particular exercise in a week. I would call your surgeon back and INSIST on seeing him.

If you havent work out for awhile your musles will hurt a few days later. I have learned the hard way many times to start out light and easy if you havent been to the gym for awhile. It takes several weeks to get to the point of not much pain after a work out. In my opinion, 150 Lbs is to much weight to start with. Its not a competition.

My daughter, who is an occupational therapist has told me many times in the past...if it hurts, don't do it. A doctor's titles and prize ribbons don't keep him from being an a**hole. I have recovered from many surgeries and know from experience that I can't just jump in and resume my life like normal after surgery. WLS takes a lot out of you besides your stomach. It takes your energy and strength, too. You may have the motivation to work out, but you need some respect for the insides of you that you cannot see. Even though our larascopic incisions look well, they don't speak for how your insides were brutalized by all of those tools and manipultions during surgery. I say go see your primary at least for some pain relief and back off the lifting for a while. He/she may refer you right back to the surgeon. Also, take your question to the GUYS FORUM on this site, and see what the fellas have to say.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
