June 2007 Bandsters

Toni - I'm so sorry the band didn't work for you. But It's so good to see you post and know that you are still around! have you considered taking nutrition classes or anything? Or perhaps even going through the process of slowing refilling the band to see if you can work with it this time? I know getting used to what foods you can and can't eat is a hard one!! I'm still mad that I can eat so much sugary stuff... but can't eat lettuce to save my life! It's just one of the things I've resigned to live with.

thanks everyone - Rhonda she is 5 1/2. She is doing fine. she has one scrap on her shoulder and a bruise where she had her IV. You would never know anything had even happened. It is very hard to keep her down, since she doesn't even feel hurt.

we closed on our house today! 13 acres with a stocked pond. I hope to be outside more and getting in some exercise working on the farm!

Toni - I am so glad to see you post. I hope you can find something that will work for you.

I can't believe it has been 1 year - what a difference a year can make. I will try and post a picture, but I am more excited to see everyone else! Get those pictures out there!

Hi ~ It's been a few weeks since I've had time to post. Just can't seem to squeeze in the extra computer time lately.

Well, big things have been happening and I'm getting stressed now. After years of female problems my OBGYN has decided we can go ahead and yank the plumbing. I go in on July 8th for a complete hystorectomy (spelling?) at the age of 36. After contacting my lapband surgeon today I found that I have to go in and have a complete unfill at least 2 weeks prior to my surgery. I'm stressed because I'm afraid I will slip off the bandwagon and gain a few pounds back and how long will it take me to get back to where I'm at now with my fill. Granted I think I'm a little too restricted now, but I'm not losing either. It may be silly, but I hate even looking at the scale when I'm up 2 or 3 pounds now.

Is there anything I need to tell my anesthologist (again spelling) in regards to working around my band? All my lapband doc said was to discuss options with them. Any medical words of advice Suzzzie?

I do look forward to not having my TOTM anymore, but hormone replacement is kind of scary too. Things have just gotten worse since I've lost weight and started exercising more (more pain, longer cycle (10-14 days), severe bleeding) I just can't do this anymore.

Thanks for listening to my whine fest!

Toni,

I am ssssssoooooo glad that you posted!!! Keep posting. Here's my advice (for what it's worth). You're completely unfilled, so go and make an appointment for a small fill. Start all over and start off slowly. Make this a new beginning!!!

Take time while you are there to tell the doctor about challenges of the band over the last year. Ask for a small fill and to see the nutrionist. Make that day the first day again...

YOU CAN DO IT!!!! I KNOW YOU CAN!!! KEEP POSTING AND LET US ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER....LIKE WE USE TO IN THE BEGINNING!!!

Love you and hope you back for good!!!!:(:drool:

Hey Karla. I'd just make sure that everyone is aware of your band and your port, so they don't mess it up. Too bad you haveto get an unfill!!!

Since my 1cc unfill 3 weeks ago I've gained TEN flippin pounds! I don't care what the NP says, she WILL fill me with at least 0.5cc when I go in on the 12th!!! Ugh!!!!!!

I used to have the same problem. I stayed on the pill Loestrin and never got a period. and feeling great. Any how I had my band unfilled once and gained 5lbs. in 1 week. Just go to weight watchers right a way for a while we all know it works. Don't mess up all the work you have done.

Toni, what a treat to see your post today. I'm sorry the band hasn't worked out for you the way it is supposed to. Getting the right fill can be so tricky. At least you still have it if you want to try again. Stay positive!

I just got home from a 3 day weekend family reunion in Arkansas. I'm exhausted, and think I'm getting a cold. Ugh. I ate crappily too. But, before I left Friday morning I bought a new pair of jeans in a size 22... which is amazing for me!!

Suzzzie, way to go! That's a great Non-Scale Victory (to use a Weight Watchers board term).

Missy, so glad your daughter wasn't severely hurt. It does sound like she was being watched over by angels. Will keep her in thoughts and prayers. Congrats on the 13 acres! We bought 10 with a pond last Fall and the kids love it!

Karla, will be praying for you. I know the fear of an unfill. I am having a port removal (long story) and then will have it replaced when my MRSA clears up and they talked of an unfill as well...I think my doc is going to try to leave saline in the line. It is a scary prospect, but you can do it. you've come so far and someone mentioned Weight Watchers....that's a definite help for me lately...I visit their Core board a lot for some ideas.

Ah, Rhonda, huh? And you're going to be in there the day before me! Good luck, Suz.

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in a very long time. I've actually been avoiding this forum for a while because I've been stuck at a plateau for the last 3 months. I haven't gained any weight, but I haven't lost any. We moved in January and I had to find a new Lap Band doctor, so with the stress of moving and changing jobs and everything, it's probably to be expected. But I had another fill a week ago and hope to get back on track. I still struggle intensely with eating the right foods but I'm doing my best to stay focused.

I hope you are all doing well and I wish everyone a great 1 year anniversary. I'll try to be on here more because I really do appreciate the encouragement I get from all of you!

Lucy...I understand your feelings for my weight has been similar..we have to keep going and know that eventually our brains will kick in gear!!

toni WELCOME BACK....I AM SO GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU... I agree with Suzzzie and others, the band remains inside you, think about starting over, go to a nutritionist and know you can do it!!!

holli, glad to see you post too, sorry to hear about the fire..yuk keep in touch you are doing great

missy...how scary for you and your daughter. I thought of this when I ran upstairs one night to close and lock a window in the room where my 2 year old grandaughter was sleeping. she is terrible 2's. I am glad it all worked out.

big baby, suzzzie and others, our sizes are going downnnnnnnnnn, it is great to have that feeling!

kt I to have had a strange appt. with my doc yesterday for a flouro. I always thought I was up to 8.5. I had asked for a flouro for my one year to ensure no stretching or that the band was all OK! they checked my Fluid and said it was the same, 6.5 not 8.5!!! I was a bit shocked. she added a "tweak" as she puts it, so I am thinking now 7. My dr does not like us to get caught up in numbers but how we feel, but I was totally off. I am hoping being on liquids and soft foods will kick my weight loss. I was up 3lbs!!! I was so bummed when I left.

Karla, sorry to here about your upcoming surgery... one step at a time. keep us posted for some of us will have to face othe surgeries in bandland!

well, off to work...

Well, I guess I had a good bandiversary. I got a fill on Monday, Today was the first day of food. Don't really feel any different restriction yet but sometimes it sets in later. The good part about today was a customer came in my store and told me that I look like that I have lost some weight. I haven't heard that in a long time. I really do not feel any different or look any different. Same size clothes fit and I am now down 39 pounds. Haven't changed ticker yet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
