June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I had my port repositioning procedure today and it went well. I thought it would be done locally, but I was under.:notagree It took approximately 20 minutes. I only have pain in the incision. The doctor went back through the same scar. I am on Clear Liquids for 3 days and back to solid foods. Got a small fill also!!

Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers!!!

Glad they got you all fixed up. AND gave you a fill!!! yay!

I just got back from the doctor and found out that my post flipped, it wasn't just tilted like the nurse thought. My doctor says I have to have surgery to correct it. I am feeling very down right now. I didn't want problems so soon, or even at all. To top it off I was vomiting for about 10 straight hours on this week and am scared that my band slipped. I asked the doctor about that too and he just kind of strugged and said it should be okay. I might ask for an upper gi before I get the port fixed just to ease my mind.

Oh no!!! HOPEFULLY they will be able to fix yours quicklylike they did for BigBaby!! You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated.

Oh No! I'm sorry Nvalicia! What was the cause of your vomiting? Did you have a Migraine or stomach virus? I bet your band is OK, and I'm sorry your Dr. shrugged!!!!! (I had a similar thing happen to me a month or so ago) Go get your UGI and ease your mind, though....it will do you good! :)

Hugs,

Toni

I doubt your band has slipped but the tilted port sucks but just look at BigBaby. Hers is fixed and she got a fill. Hopefully, yours will be resolved easily too.

3 tacos huh? You know none of us are shocked. It must be annoying that you have to wait so long for a fill. Some people report it kicking in after a few days. Maybe that will happen for you.

It's all so unpredictable. Today I could eat only 5 or 6 bites for lunch but yesterday I could eat triple that. Not sure why. The weather? Hormones? Stress? Unfortunately, food-dependent that I am, I ate chocolate and some macadamia nuts because I knew I wouldn't have a problem eating those. It's a silly thing to do but little by little, I am learning to make better choices. I guess it takes a while to kick a life-time of bad eating habits.

PS

Rita, thanks for letting us know how you are. I thought you wouldn't want to read about our experiences but I guess you have to prepare yourself for when you get the band. It's odd that you've had that hernia all your life and have only know discovered it. Here's hoping that 2007 will be your band year after all. If any other rare posters are out there, let us know how you're doing.

mjsafari, I'm glad you knew to get an unfill. It helps that you reported it to us. I think we can do damage if we are too tightly filled.

Toni, GREAT to have you back! How was your vacation?

bcrazy, sounds like your fill experience regarding restriction is similar to mine. I am disappointed that I don't have much restriction. I did get a full feeling last night after eating a tortilla/quesadia thing. I should have stopped 3/4 through. but it did not get stuck and tasted so GOOD!

insub says that the restriction sometimes comes later or alternates one day and then another, this is what I have read. I am hoping for a surprise vist of restriction!!!

bigbaby GREAT news for you. I am glad your doc acted so quickly and did a fill at the same time, you must feel better!

nv sorry to hear your news, bigbaby's experience gives HOPE! Hang in there, keep us posted!!

stef glad to hear you can eat again! You and I are at the same wieght. Your loss is ahead of mine, I will keep you as my inspiration..

mj glad you are feeling better, it is nice reading how everyone begins to feel and understand the band, and be assertive with the doc's! You sound like you have a great one.

DAN Where are you? Want to hear about your fill?

TGIF!!!!!!

Janine - I do have a great doc and support staff. I was very concerned about erosion or slipping if I was too tight. It is much easier to have a little out and then work back up than to deal with something worse. I now have to be diligent about my portions, so I don't gain back what I lost this week!

Insub - I appreciate everyone's posts and experiences and hope mine was helpful to others.

Have a great Friday everyone!

nvalicia--Have you received a date to have the port repositioned? It's quick---extremely quick---It took the doc 15-20 min. I didn't experience the vomiting (thank God). Are you still experiencing this? I pray all goes well for you!!

ja9va: I go in to get my fill on aug 7th at 10:00 and I can't wait. I am just alittle bit freaked out because I am always reading about people with their ports fliping on them. I am sure it's nothing to worry about but I always worry I guess. It sound like it's no big deal fixing it I just hope it's ok.

Bigbaby: Thats cool you got your port fixed so fast. Do you know if your insurance is going to cover it or do you got to pay for it yourself? Are you in much pain?

Dan---I'm not in pain...I can't believe it!!! Every now and then I feel a twinge of pain (more soreness than pain) where the doctor went back in through the incision. As far as I know, the insurance is paying for it. No one has mentioned money to me, SO I'M NOT MENTIONING IT TO THEM!!!!

BB---way to go! Don't ask, don't tell!!! You are making me chuckle over here!!!!

Java...thanks for asking about my vacay :) It was wonderful. Is anyone from Arizona? We stayed in Sedona (beautiful!) and took day trips to see the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff/Rt. 66/, Phoenix, etc. Just love that state! I think I'm filled a wee bit too tight because I can't tolerate a lot of foods, so I lost a few pounds on vacation! I'm NOT complaining! It's good to be back and "visiting" with you all again! :ranger:

(Maybe a few of our MIA's are on vacay too!)

Cheers!

Toni

Does anyone use an online food journal? I've found one, but I'm not happy with it. I'd welcome any recommendations!

I use DietPower online. It was recommended by someone on one of the threads. I really like it. You can use it for two weeks before you have to decide to subscribe.

lo2us - YES! I use my-calorie-counter.com religiously! I subscribed for the premium membership...it's not much...can't recall the price, though. There is a free version, as well where you can log all your foods. They have great forums, you can create your own blog, and make friends.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
