June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Nina, Toni and Steph and any others who have experiences their 2nd fill---

May I be so bold as to ask how much weight did you lose between the 1st fill and the 2nd fill. Hope I'm not being too rude...but I want to set realistic expectations. I'm going in for my 1st fill tomorrow. Well actually today--it's 12:25 am

Yes, I'm Australian MVR. Bandsters are really ripped off at those all-you-can-eat places.

I'm going for my 2nd fill tomorrow too. I'm sure I've put on weight but I always think that. Hopefully, I'll post back with a loss..

I have to remember that it's not a race and it's not a diet club. We won't start really losing until we're properly filled. I was fine the first few days after my first fill but then the restriction went away. I don't have high hopes for the 2nd fill. I'm thinking the 4th might be more realistic.

So what's everyone else up to besides obsessing over weight? Any NSVs?

ETA: Hair loss. I had an undiagnosed thyroid problem for several years. I used to have gorgeous hair but it thinned to the point of baldness along the part. Luckily I'm tall, so it goes unnoticed for the most part but it was really, really bad for a while. It started to grow back a little once my thyroid issues were corrected. I'm a blond but it grew back a brownish colour. It was really funny as it was never as long as the rest of my hair. I hope it doesn't drop out again now but I'll live if it does. My aunt has lost all her hair in chemo just now, so I have some perspective for the moment. Just want to say that it *can* grow back and you won't be bald for life.

sleep patterns; I have always been a early riser, but since surgery I don't get up so many times during the night. That is a good thing.

hair loss I know anestisia(spell?) can make you lose hair too. I agree with eating healthy and we may reduce it!

fills Wow, what a story dawn. I know that in my doctors office the PA does them all. faithmd,I agree with going with the most expereince. I heard our person is great. The doctor doesn't even do any?

insub I agree about this not being a race and everyone is different. First all our doctors area all different on diets, timings of fills, and advice. I think we need to look at ourselves and what we can do to work towards our goal.

I know that I need a fill, haven't had one yet and I am at 5 plus weeks. But I also know I need to stick to the diet. If I don't lose I am practicing my eating habits. I do get frustrated! But I have to step back and remind myself.

It is great telling our stories and sharing ideas, that is what makes this so great. It is normal for us to compare our weigh loss, however we still need to keep in mind we are all different.

Have a good day ya all!!

Hey insub, you're an Aussie right? We will go to Vegas together!! Can't wait to get to that "all you can eat buffet" JUST KIDDING Actually right now I'm so hungry that I'm sure I would do it justice. I am sleeping differently too, I'm also more "antsy" in the evening and don't seem to be able to blob out after the kids go to bed. Maybe it's just because I am trying not to eat on the couch in front of the TV. Can't wait for my fill although it sounds like it is rare for the first one to do the trick????

Lol. I will miss the buffets in Vegas - but I knew I was only 2 weeks from surgey my last trip there, so I ate enough then to get me through the next several visits. Haha. Also, Slot-A-Fun has this HUGE hotdog that I like. Lol. Oh yes, fat people always know where to go for food quantity!!

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this was discussed somewhere else and I didn't find it.

Has anyone had their port move? I've been using the treadmill and last night was my first time back actually running. :clap2: My port has been right at/just above my belly button. This morning I woke up and it's up and over about 2 inches. I'm not sure if it was because I like to run close to the treadmill bar and it bumped it or just the jiggling of my belly that did it. I don't think it's a cause for concern that I want to run to my doctor over. Just thought it was kinda weird. I've been bonding with my band/port :D and it decided to up and move on me....Any thoughts?

GREAT attitude, Java!

BB...I didn't lose any weight between my fills...just maintained, but hopefully that will all change with this 2nd fill!

Cheers!

I'm glad your fill went well Bigbaby! I ended up getting mine yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. Dr. B ended up doing mine so I wouldn't have to make another trip today. He told me I would probably need another one pretty quick and had me schedule for 3 weeks out. I just love the decision I made to go with him! Yay!!!

He told me that I had 2 cc's in from surgery and he put another 2 in, so I have a total of 4. Yesterday, I was quite uncomfortable and thought it was too much, but it's all good today.

I didn't lose much since my first fill...I think about 6 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks.

Okay, seeing that in writing, it IS a lot, but not like in the beginning. And I agree, I was restricted for the first few days after my fill, then it was gone. I have hope for this fill, but won't be disappointed if it takes one or two more.

FarmerE I thought the port was fixed to the muscle? My Doc told me mine has claws(OOWW) that they activate during surgery to make it grip the muscle. Call your Doc and check if it's OK??

Everyone else HI I'm having a bad day. My autistic 11 yr old and his 6 yr old twin sisters NEVER stop fighting. They are at that age where they have figured out he gets alot of allowences made for him and they need to compensate for that by seeing if they can antagonize him into a wild fury before I catch them. I want to jump off a cliff:eek:, but since they need me I can't do that so I would settle for ALOT of chocolate but I don't want to do that either BECAUSE I"M SICK OF BEING A FATSO:faint:. Now I will get off my pity pot and get on with my day. It's not this bad every day but sometimes I need a weep. I want to be like those before and after pics, I want that to be me. I will repeat THIS IS NOT A RACE alot today. I think it's so important to remember those habits/compulsions are not going to go away because we had surgery and it will take time to figure this new way of eating out. When I dieted I would go offf the deit with one thing and then go crazy. I want that "all or nothing" stuff to change. We all eat the wrong things occasionally but we just need to put it behind us and keep going (like thin people do) and not let it change the way we eat for the next day or week or whatever. Thanks for letting me blab, like you have a choice!!!:heh:

MRV--feel free to vent anytime. If you can just find a quiet place, say a little prayer and expect God to do the work. When you get those feelings--don't eat--(yes, I know it's easier said than done). Try to find a new hobbie or something to replace it with...clean the house, read a book, etc.

Having kids must be so hard. I have a difficult enough time managing my own life. I think you're right about forgiving yourself for past dietary transgressions. There's no point punishing yourself or vowing to go on liquids for the next week but there's not point in eating even more either.

I've been having a lot of food issues this week. You're right, the feelings don't just disappear but maybe they'll dissapate over time when we realise we physically can't bulk overeat. Maybe then we'll find healthier ways to deal with feelings. Of course, then soft/liquid food could be a potential problem.

I have not been exercising much at all and have been eating chocolate in the evenings (to cope with work pressure -silly, I know). Anyway, I went for my 2nd fill today 7.5/11 (I have a Swedish band) and I had only lost 0.4kilos/0.88 pounds. I don't mind. A loss is a loss is a loss.

It's more than I deserved anyway but it doesn't seem a whole lot for two weeks for a banded person. The Doc said it's normal to maintain or put on weight between the first and third fill and that I will lose 60% of the weight slowly over 18 months. He says that this can be improved markedly with exercise.

Didn't even notice I was having a fill because I was chatting. Then it was done. It feels tighter (no Water got stuck this time) but we'll see what happens in a few days. The restricted feeling went away last time. Hope it doesn't this time.

Yesterday, after I got my fill, I could hardly drink water.....I described it as feeling like a loaf of bread had been shoved down my throat. Today, I'm wide open and hungry. Crap.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
