June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Ja9va: That gortons salmon is frozen. They have a bunch of different flavors my fav is the lemon butter, they also have shrimp and a few diff kind of fish.

Bigbaby: I also mix a little bit veggies with my meals but only like a table spoon or two of peppers or onions. I like green onions with most of the thing I eat. BUt I do get most of my veggies from V8, it says it's 3 servings for like 6oz so I think it pretty good stuff. good luck with starting real food.< /p>

Nina: I have not jerked my fish but I have crab, shrimp, pork w/ pineapple and chicken. I like to use walker's wood jerk sauce next time I go to the store I will look for that one you are talking about. I am just about out of mine anyway.

o2bethin...Hang in there, I understand everything you said. I lost the majority of my weight pre opt and only I think 3/4 since June 7! It is frustrating. I am not going for my fill unitl July 31..yuk

Nina do you know if your doc left any Fluid in your band after surgery? My nurse said sometimes the doctor my leave some in there. My nurse feels I may have some because I feel restriction now, like I can't eat bread, chicken and some other foods. But I can eat some foods I shouldn't and don't get that full feeling to often. What did your doc say about what happened?

Beckie Wow passing up on cheescake from the cheesecake factory!! That is great. I love that place and I am glad there is not one closer than an hour from me!

Marga My dh and I were headed out of town on Friday and I wanted to eat something. so I bought a turkey sandwhich on toasted rye, to split with him. Well my dh lucked out because after one bite, I knew I could not eat it.

Toni good luck with your #2 fill! I am envious, but we can learn from you!

Big question for you all...why can't we drink soda? Is it due to gas? burping? Well, I am not a soda drinker, before surgery I may drink one soda in a week. This weekend I was at my brothers 50th birthday party and had a couple drinks with diet mountain dew. I did not even think about it until my way home today and a Light Bulb went off, and I was like OMG! Do you think I am ok?

The good thing about the party is I ate good, stayed away from bad, made good choices.

I had a diet coke at a baby shower a week ago. I think I drank half of it beore I even thought about it! I was fine though. Belching was pretty normal... I will say though that I was majorly addicted to diet coke before surgery, and I hadn't had one in 3 weeks... and this one tasted funny. It was the funny taste that got me thinking about it and realised that I wasn't supposed to drink it!!

Okay, so no one stab me here. I haven't had the incredible "actual" hunger everyone else has been describing here, so I could be way off base. But are those of you that are super hungry getting enough to drink? I find that even if hunger hits, if I take 1/2 hr to an hour to finish a tall glass of something, the hunger is TOTALLY gone. I'm not "full", mind you, but I'm not starving either. That helps me get through to my next meal.

Just for fun, I've been putting ice, crystal light and Water into a blender and making a super-cold low-cal drink. I find that it also helps me figure out if my stomach is really empty or not. I can feel the cold going down. So, if I feel it going down very quickly, I know I can eat safely. If it goes slowly, I know there is still food in there so I should wait a while before eating more.

About exercise, I haven't been doing it as regularly as I'd like, although I have been more active in general. Before, I'd let my house get filthy before I started to clean it (I've always been a messy person), but now I'm up cleaning every day. Then, when time allows and it's relaxing for me, I go walking at the local park for a few hours. I know it's not really enough, but with summer camp for my daughter and work I have zero time to hit the (free) gym at work, and I'm petrified of exercising outside because of dehydration. Come fall I should be back on a normal schedule and able to exercise in a gym again.

Okay, sorry for the long winded post. I haven't been on for a few days and I've been thinking about all of this stuff for the last few days, jsut waiting to get back online! :faint:

OK, I won't stab you. Haha.

Ya know, drinking doesn't satisfy me AT ALL, EVER! Unless it is something of substance... like a smoothie. But I swear I can drink gallons of water, crystal light, etc... and not feel 'full' from it! I'll feel bloated and water logged, but I am still 'hungry' for food. I'm an eater, it's what I do. - Can't WAIT to get my fill on FRIDAY!!

Joeygirl thanks for the explanation. I am going to pray after soda for an afternoon, I am ok. I am thinking when I have my flouro fill on July 31, they will be able to look at my stomach, and hopefully it is OK!

dan thanks for the info. I am going to the store tonight.

bigbaby the emmi series is an educational video on line learning tool. It is really a recap for us that are on this site, and those who have read so much. I get an alert from the doc to read a chapter for every step, I just looked at the fill one, it is www.my-emmi.com

You have to have an access code, given to you by your doc.

diane yes, your stomach will rumble from time to time. I believe drinking will help, such as Pippz suggested.

pippz I like the idea of a cyrstal light slurpie! 7 eleven use to have crystal light slurpies. But they are not always available.

Walked this am with my dh. added more time, but still need to work up to the 50-60 min!

What the heck is jerk sauce? LOL

Stefanie,

This is a decription of jerk sauce...

The "Jerk" method of seasoning and cooking meats dates back over 300 years and is a unique tradition in Jamaica. This hot jerk seasoning captures the genuine taste of jerk by combining tropical herbs and spices to create a delicious marinade. Ingredients include escallion, peppers, salt, brown sugar, pimento, cane vinegar, black pepper, garlic. ginger and spices.

HH284.jpg

My favorite is the Grace brand. You can find this & other brands in the ethnic food area in your grocery store. I use it like a marinade, rub it on meat or fish, let it sit overnight, grill. You can also get a jerk dry rub.

Janine,

From what I understand my band was empty. Hopefully the second fill will do the trick - I can eat ANYTHING. Ugh!

I believe that they want us to stay away from soda because of the carbonation and the possibility to create air in the pouch.

Before my fill too my band was empty and even with my first fill I can eat anything. Even things that I thought would get stuck doesn't and that is not a good thing.

Hi Gang,

I got 0.8cc's added to my band this morning...now I have 6.8 cc's total. I'm hoping that it will help me with my portions. Previously, I was able to eat more than a cup of food/meal.

Hope everyone is off to a good start this week. I'm going to watch Big Medicine on the treadmill tonight!!!! Here's a preview:

Big Medicine

Deathly Ill

After disobeying the doctors' orders, Marc Brackens develops life threatening blood clots in his legs. Garth and his father have to decide whether or not to perform gastric bypass surgery on Andrew, who at 17 would be one of their youngest patients ever.

Cheers,

Toni

Toni--have you heard about the bariatric chef with JourneyLite. Are you with JourneyLite...see my post on page 138.

Nina---I was in the store yesterday and got some jerk sauce--I'm going to try it on some talapia later this week. Someone posted about stuffed talapia in wal-mart. I'm going to look for it later.

I get my first fill on Wed....YEA...YEA...YEA... I hope it gives me some restriction. I feel like I have something in my band, because I don't eat as much. It may just be mental for me...I'm going to ask if there's anything in my band.

I'm sooo jealous of you guys with fills and the ones that are starting on their second fills. I wanna be like you! I still have probably another four weeks before my doc will consider a fill. Oh well.

BUT, I was given permission to go be a drunk person for training. LOL. They are providing the alcohol and I get to drink enough to be legally drunk and beyond so the officers can put us through field sobriety tests. YAY! My doc said he wanted to volunteer too!

You guys are doing awesome. I'm so happy to see that everyone is doing well and that the issues creeping up are minor.

Huntersmom: I'm up for going somewhere. They are considering Vegas in Feb of '08 but they haven't ironed out the details yet.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
