June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Anyone else having problems with how your band feels in the morning? I wake up every morning feeling like I need to hiccup/throw up but nothing comes. Once I drink something super-cold it helps, but until then it's a real annoyance.

I am proud to say that I am officially a June Bandster. I was banded on 6/25. I am frustrated because my scales show me weighing 5 pounds heavier than the morning of my surgery. But my surgeon took me off my blood pressure pills, which also contained my Fluid pills. So i am thinking I am just retaining fluid since that is all that I am allowed to drink. Has that happened to anyone else?

How long were you guys on a liquid diet after the surgery? My doc says 2 weeks clear liquid, 2 weeks full liquid, 2 weeks pureed foods. -- man, summer will be over before I can eat anything.

Thanks for listening.....

It is so hard to believe that I have now been banded almost 2 weeks! Congratulations to everyone with their band and good luck to those that are about to begin the journey.

We were out of town last week for a baseball tournament and I found it very difficult to stay on liquids. I did eat some food, but chewed very carefully and kept portions way down. There were several times that I should have had Soup, but didn't. Should have gone on a guilt trip, but kept that at bay....LOL.

I also developed a major toothache and had to get some pain pills called in by my dentist. Fortunately, I was able to get them down. I couldn't have made it without them.

By the time we got home, I was retaining a lot of fluid; my ankles looked like I was pregnant. Had my dental work done yesterday and am off the hydrocodone. The puffiness has gone away so I'm back to normal. Thank goodness because I had about 4 pounds of Water to get rid of!

I'm back on liquids without a problem now and the weightloss is still there. Wheeeeee!

Toni & Nina--Hey--Girl--Missin You and your encouragement!!!!

Not so sure I like the idea of subgroups--I have to read too many different threads

I also weighed more when I got home from surgery than I did before I went in. I was told to expect this because they "pump" a ton of liquid into you. But here is a word of warning...look at the thread about Blood Pressure meds in the Main Forum. I experienced exactly what they are reporting, that is, within two weeks of surgery I had lost enough weight that my meds were way too high. I was light headed and passing out before I called my Dr. to find out what the problem was. If you have a cuff, I suggest you use it daily (instead of a scale? ) and if you don't have one there are alot of drug stores that have machines that can be used for free.

Meanwhile, hope all the Fluid is down the drain and you are feeling well.

ML

to all the June 2007 bandsters...bless yourself NOW for deciding to this for yourself!!!! Even my Doctor...who does mostly bypass could not beleive I had lost over 100 lbs my first year out--he was going for 90lbs in 18 months. I feel like a very happy poster child!! Never would I have dreamed of this success in a year--I am rooting for you all CHEERS!!!

I'm bored. Was supposed to go to the Jimmy Buffett concert today with a bunch of friends. Decided against it...very hot, still a little shaky after walking a lot, there is a big massive hill with a ton of stairs, etc. But I'm bored. :)

Laura - Not so much walking. I went to the grocery store and some errands for about an hour under the watchful eye of my mother. LOL. I've been pacing up and down the walkway in front of my parent's house and walking laps inside. Too friggin hot out to do much. I wasn't told to wait to walk and they encouraged it (as long as I didn't over do it) in order to prevent clots.

How are you holding up? My stomach was a little swollen today (forgot to put the ice packs on) but other than that, I didn't take the hydrocodone this morning and am feeling pretty decent. :)

I should also mention that after we got back from the errands, I slept for about 2 hours. I was wiped....

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
