June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I noticed you saying you had over 200 lbs to lose. I have approximately the same amount and my doctor is telling me that she recommends the gastric instead, mainly because of the amount i have to lose. What was your experience with your doctor? Thanks for your help.

Nope. The center I am going to only does Lap Band (that I know of). Bypass was never an option in my mind.

Annie I think this is a good plan. If you feel up to it you can always return to work. Good Luck!!

Danielle I also had an hour drive. The ride went fine. All your feelings are normal. You will do great. Concentrate on the goal of a thinner life.

Jackie great to hear from you. I am glad you are home. My surgery was 6 days ago and I am finally feeling better. The gas is less, just can't bend over very good. Like you andVP I had a hiatal hernia repaired. I never had acid reflux or any indegestion problems, so I had no idea it was there. I have no pain from that? when I go to my doctors tomorrow I will ask.

bgbaby Welcome back! It must have taken a few hours to read and follow the thread, it is growing every day!

I had a good day. I bought the Magic Bullet at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It was 59.99 but I had a 20% coupon. I also bought soy whey Protein. I mixed it up with a tomatoe Soup packet, Water. It was thick, but tasty. I used the bullet! Very cool.

Hello all - just checking in for the day. Janine - congrats on finding the bullet!

I had my staples removed today. Boy am I a big baby. My DH went with me because I thought the removal would be awful. It wasn't!

Got to move to FULL liquids today. Having some trouble getting any amount down. I never suffered from heartburn before. It seems like even Water is causing some discomfort. Any advice?

Good Luck tomorrow Tammy!! You will do great

Terry, I had no staples, just super glue! I don't know how it works, but it did! I go back tomorrow to the doctor, and I am hoping to have mushies? but maybe not? I am wondering if the Soup I had for dinner was really a liquid or not? I shall see.

Okay everyone, this is day 5 postop for me, and I'm still feeling restricted. Is anyone else feeling this way this far after surgery? I can't tell with the way I feel if I'm hungry or still full. Anyone have any suggestions. I kind of just hurt all the time....I know it's not gas. I haven't had gas pains since day 2. I'm still in the liquid phase and only able to drink about 1/8 cup of anything. I'm hoping this gets better when I can go to mushies on Thursday. I'm scared of stretching my pouch since I'm not sure what the pain is for....hunger or fullness. I still can't sleep on my sides or stomach either. Help, I'm kind of out of ideas.

Good luck to everyone being banded tomorrow!

Bgbaby, yes my surgeon is Dr. Benavides too, although I haven't met him yet. LOL I go for my pre-op tomorrow at 10:00 and then my surgery is Friday at 10:00. Apparently the pre-op is a group thing for Q&A and then a one on one with the doctor. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm in Rockwall, so not too far! Good luck!

Insubordination: I work 28 days on 28 days off. My doc said everything should be ok to go back to work with my 28 days of rest. He said worst case he will put me on light duty. I really don't do all that much hard work. I just drive the boat and do alot of paper work for 6 hours on 6 hours off for 28 days.

Suzzzie: I was wondering if you ever talked to your nurse about pictures or a video. I just e-mailed my nurse. I hope they don't think I am some kind of weirdo.

I got to say I am really kicking butt on my pre op diet. I am down alot of weight. Much more than I planned, My cal count is down to 650-800 and I have been working out alot. I know my insurance approved me for the band but they also said I must have a BMI over 40 and now it's down to 38.5. I asked my nurse and she told me not to worry, but I still worry. Has anyone heard of someones provider not covering after being approved?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
