June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Oh boy! What a day! I had surgery last Friday, and decided I would go back to work today. I survived, but it was not the brightest of decisions!:)

My day involved a lot of driving and a lot of walking. By the time I got to my sixth stop, I was in so much pain from the gas, I thought I was dying! Stop me in my tracks...steal the breath out of my chest...PAIN! I know the activity only served to help make the gas go away faster, but I couldn't take it any more, so I cut my day short.:faint:So I came home, took a healthy dose of pain meds and took the best nap ever! LOL:notagree

I'm glad I did it...getting out and about...and I'd do it again. I will just make sure I am closer to home when I need to bail out!

And I got on my scale tonight and my body fat is down 1.8% and 8 pounds are gone since last week! I know a lot may be Water or something, but I'll take it!

Good night, y'all and take care, Stef

So, those of you that got banded about a week ago.....do you think you'd do okay on a road trip? I am having my surgery this Friday and then have to get in the car the next Thursday and drive/ride for about 11 hours. Can't miss my son's baseball tournament! LOL

Any tips you have would be appreciated too!

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Stef, my neice spells her name with an "f" too.

I have a question for everyone...I'm having my surgery on Monday, do you think I will be able to go back to work by Thursday? I sit at a desk mostly...not too much moving around is involved. Suggestions?

Heather (Hotty)<br /> Yes I talked with my surgeon today and mainly because of money/no insurance I am going for the band!! Obviously it's not my first choice simply because I have over 200 lbs to loose but if I were to have any complications with RNY I would have a HUGE hospital bill to pay out of pocket!! So there ya have it! My surgery is still for Wed June 20 just 8 days!!! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO

I have over 200 pounds to lose as well, but still opted for the band due to recovery time and complications with the bypass. I've had several family members and know co-workers with the bypass and every single one of them - NONE lost ALL their weight, and most have now gained back 1/2 to all of what they lost. Bypass isn't long term unless you have the willpower behind it. I'm hoping the band, once at restriction, will give me the long term loss I am looking for. I don't care if it takes 5 years to lose it, as long as it's coming off, and not coming back ON!

Well I might just be a big baby but I am taking the full week of surgery plus the whole next week off!! My theory is it is better to have the time off and not need it than to need it and not have it! I can always go back to work earlier if I feel up to it.

HELP ... I am soooo stinkin hungry!! I haven't been hungry at all during my pre-op until yesterday and today!! I know today has just started but this is the first time I have woke up to my stomach growling and acting ANGRY!! What's up with this?

I got banded a week ago tomorrow, and I think I would be up to a road trip now. The pain from the stitches is mostly gone, so sitting isn't a big problem. The only pain I have any more, is when I do a lot bending over. Last night I even was able to sleep on my stomach and both sides with no trouble. I am still on liquids, and finding that it is so hard to go without the chewing. I would give anything for a chip, popcorn, pretzel. Anything crunchy and salty.

Today I am going out of town with some friends. I think the main trouble will be finding something to eat on the road. I don't think I will want to sit in Red Lobster and watch everyone else eat my favorite foods. I will have them drop me off at a store nearby. Even most of the Soups in restaurants are way to thick for me to eat yet.

Anyhow, go on the road trip, watch your son, and have a good time. Just make sure to stop every few hours and walk a little.

OH, by the way, I love mexican food also. I have a couple friends who were banded last year, and they all are able to eat mexican, just not as

much. They all say the chips go down very easy, and did right fromt he start. Boy do I want chips and salsa now. Got to quit writing about food and go have a Soup to Go for Breakfast.< /p>

TONI AND OTHER TICKER EXPERTS!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE CORRECT, I CAN MOVE THE MOUSE ON OTHERS TICKERS AND THE POINTER/FINGER COMES UP, WHEN YOU DO THAT ON MINE IT DOES NOT. I AM THINKING IT HAS TO DO WITH HOW I SET IT UP WHEN YOU SAID THAT THE URL, OR bb thing was the tricky part. Did I not do that? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED, MAYBE FROM THE NEWBIES WHO HAVE THE SET UP FRESH IN THEIR MINDS. I HATE BEING COMPUTER FRUSTRATED ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS PROBABLY AN EASY STEP I MISSED:help:

ANNIE welcome to a great site! You asked about going to work, I am not sure, others have done it and did fine. It is really an individual thing. I had my surgery last Thursday and decided to keep my week that I originally put in for. I have my follow up with the doctor on Wednesday. I am feeling great today, gas pains are there, but not as bad. I probably could have gone to work today. I had the weekend after my surgery which did give me an advantage!! Good luck!

Stef -Great weight loss!!

Kland - I would go on the trip. I agree with the advise of taking stops to stretch and walk a bit to move around any gas or giving your tummy a strectch. Pack your Protein Drinks and Water in your cooler. Have fun!!

Suzzie I agree with the lapband long term success. I have 3 people at my office who have had bypass they are all doing fine, however I do know of others who have gained weight back. There was a person in my surgeons orientation session who had the bypass, and he even said he would be reluctatnt to perform the band on someone who had bypass and gained it back because the person did not change their behaviors. This is all true.

I had my first cup of coffee today and it did not tast that good. It was Decaf but still! Maybe I will be turning a new leaf! Hope when I have my first glass of wine it feels good though..lol I am off today for a pedicure and nails and a bit of shopping, GNC and hopefully find my bullet!

Have a great day.

Hmmm....have you asked your surgeon if this would be OK? I don't want to be a wet blanket, because you'd probably be just fine...but...an 11 hour trip is draining and taxing under the best of circumstances. Is there any way you could get a flight and meet them there? I felt pretty good 6 days out, but I wouldn't have tried an 11 hour trip, each way, and being on a liquid diet to boot. I drove to Milwaukee and back (4 hours) 6 days out and I was BEAT when I got home. But we're all different. I'd advise to ask the doc and use your best judgement.

Thanks ja9va, Holli, Insub...I told work I could be out the whole week, but if I can come back early I will. We'll just see how it goes. :)

I need to get one of those ticker things. Whoohooo! It's really happening... I can't wait!

:) Hey! I am not on the calendar?!?! :D

Less than a week until my big day! I am having a rough day, want to eat bad stuff. I had a "kind of" fight with my husband last night, not about the surgery, but still, I didn't get much sleep!

Lots of emotions going on right now... Butterflies in my stomach! I am excited, scared, nervous, but really just want to get the surgery and healing part over with so I can get on with my life! I know the surgery will go over fine, not really worried about dieing or anything. But, I am such a big baby when it comes to pain. I hope I can survive an hour car ride home after they release me!

Hope all you other Junies are doing well! I can't believe how many messages we have on here! I can barely keep up!

Here I am 2 days before I officially start my 2-week presurgery diet. I'm trying out lunch with a Protein Shake. However, I'm not sure if this is right...

I had one serving of Protein (two scoops), 8 oz of skin milk, and crushed ice. Ends up with about 14 oz of "shake" because of the ice and scoops of Protein. I figure the calorie count is about 275ish.

Does this sound right?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
