Pre-op rituals to reclaim your power, and to set the tone for success

Recommended Posts

I would love to hear any rituals or other such things that people have done to reclaim their power, as it were.

Yesterday I "unsubscribed" from my Men's Big & Tall email list that sent me monthly specials on clothing, since I will soon not be needing them.

I felt like a million bucks, with even such a small action. I think of the Butterfly Principle, and what that might imply for my initial throws on this path.

It was amazing what such a little thing like an email "un-subsubscribe" could do to boost my confidence. I then considered what I already know to be true about the human experience, and how small actions can influence the larger picture, not unlike the simple choices I made that compounded one upon another that got me "here" to this place where WLS is necessary.

I surmise that there are more things in our control and that lend power to our actions to include, but not be limited to, choosing positive speak, rather than focusing on pain, suffering or discomfort. I would imagine there is a lot of power simply in an exercise such as unsubscribing from "fat guy" catalogs such as ones I have utilized for years. I would imagine there is power in simply speaking and thinking as though I were already thinner and successful with this process we are engaging.

I know we know this, but it helps to think about the power of simple choices/actions.

I would love to hear the simple rituals/reclamation of power actions that others have taken.

I can certainly relate! My snail-mail mailbox has been overflowing with catalogues for items I can't fit into...yet. I've been tossing them after perusing the beautifuls fashions I'll be able to wear next spring!

Thats awesome! I am thinking about collecting the snail mail catalogs and ritually burning them in a bonfire after one year. There is something pretty awesome about incorporating the metaphor of fire into the mix.

Yes, I received a coupon by email from my favorite online plus size clothing boutique, and realized I will never buy from them again! I hope the excitement of that keeps me going as I begin this journey!

Wonderful wonderful wonderful ideas. I am unsubscribing to all of those wonderful woman sized clothing lines as we speak.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
