Kaggin 2 Posted May 1, 2014 I'm at 4 weeks post op today. I've been having a hard time getting in my 60 grams of Protein. It feels impossible! My nut said not to drink it but focus on eating it more but when you can only hold 4-6 ounces its next to impossible. And those Protein Shakes are higher in calories then i would like. Any suggestions?
Chele H 427 Posted May 1, 2014 I am 9 months post op and I still drink a Premier Protein every day for Breakfast. There is no way I would get enough Protein otherwise. I don't see the harm in drinking the shakes unles they are too high in calories. My surgeon doesn't want me to drink them either but when I told him the Premier has only 160 calories and 30 grams of protein he was OK with it.
betty_s 476 Posted May 1, 2014 i'm still pre-surgery, but ive been told to eat 4 oz of Protein, then anything else. if you stomach holds 4-6 oz, should you be able to get a serving of Protein in every meal?
Kaggin 2 Posted May 1, 2014 Yeah that should be the case but even then the Protein isn't adding up to 60 grams a day.
Kiara5244 62 Posted May 1, 2014 invest in unflavored Protein powder..usual has low calories fat and sugar. Plus its easy to add it to everything. I add a tablespoon of it into my gravies, Soups, sauces, yogurt, pudding etc. At first it wont seem like a lot but throughout the day it adds up. Just be careful not to add too much at a time or else you'll end up with a gross unbearable meal!
Kindle 8,667 Posted May 1, 2014 If you drank two premier proteins/ day, that would be 60g Protein and only 320 calories. Very doable. Even at 4 1/2 months out, I drink a Premier chocolate mixed with 16oz. Skim milk at least 5 days/week. (I could never stand the RTD shakes without diluting them... Too sweet and thick). That means I'm getting 46g Protein, 350 calories and 27oz fluids in one "meal". Makes meeting my goals throughout the rest of the day easy without even trying....good thing since I don't track or measure my food. And ditto to the unflavored Protein Powder... I put it in everything I can.
