So I am 18 days post op. I had my first bowel movement on day 8. I felt it was typical because of the liquid only. Now that I am on soft foods it's been 10 days. I know I have to go but I am so constipated that it won't come out and I dont want to push and hurt my new little tummy. I tried a sepository but still nothing. I am trying prune juice and Colace (stool softener) now. Does anyone have any other suggestions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Miralax. it can be mixed in water/crystal light/tea etc and it is tasteless and colorless. It is over the counter and you can get the walmart/target brand cheaper and it works just as well. Start once a day, but it can be taken up to 3 times/day.

I know it sounds gross but a warm Water enema will do it and do you no harm. Try to drink more Water, it helps to keep your stool softer and moving better.

Walking totally helps!! Walking and Water and I'm guaranteed to go! Try to go for at least 20 minutes high intensity walk. Personally I cannot tolerate Milk of Mag. and there is no way I'm doing an enema.

I know it's too late now, but my surgeons handbook says if you haven't gone by day 3, it's time to help move things along. The longer you wait, the more impacted it gets. I've seen posts on here from people who had yo go to the ER for impacted bowels. No joke.

Take Mirilax once a day. Also drink drink drink and walk. If you still can't go contact your PCP and tell them. They can proscribe Colace or Senna. Hope that helps. Don't let it go too long.

Milk of Magnesia had me going in 30 mins- lasted about 2 hours. I highly recommend, I had no idea I had that much poo poo in me. Additionally I have been going regularly since this little cleanse. I am 17 days post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
