I heard that there is a doctor in Montreal - affiliated with McGill who does the procedure. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thank you to susansilver, Wheezy and litar, the list is really appreciated. Also, thanks for telling me that I can get a video that my GP can look over, I'm sure we could figure it out pretty easily. The information that everyone can provide on this site is quite amazing... It's also great that it's from people going through this procedure as well a being living proof it works...

Thanks for being there

Hi,

I was banded on 26th of August at Rockland Medical Clinic in Montréal by Doctor Henry Atlas. !! Everything went very well. We live in New Brunswick and we have onlly ONE doctor for all the Maritime. Dr S Beausoleil in Moncton. Of course do you think he takes somebody with only 40 BMI? Nope. He takes people with grave complication from obesity... so after of 11 hours driving in car, we went twice to Montréal: To meet Dr Atlas and bingo... for the surgery at Rockland Medical Clinic on August 26, 08.

Now I love to read all the forums on lapband because I am one of them.

God bless all of us who try hard to keep in shape.

Madame Suzanne

l'hopital Pierre-Boucher of Longueuil has a new surgeon that do the lap band is name is Dr Hugo Diec He's the one that did ma surgery. You may be able to have a appointement with him

but the Rockland medical center seems the best choice since it's a private clinic

How are you doing? Did you have your first filling?

Hi Geneviève,

Coincidence.... I graduated from U of Moncton in 1997 in BED. I am a French Immersion Teacher for District 6. We live in Hampton.

As you know a doctor who does lapband surgery is so rare in the Maritime. Dr Beausoleir of George Dumont do not take any patient unless you are half dead!. So I choose to pay and go to Montréal (being born in St-Hyacithe area). I will see my doctor next month for my first fill.... I am still loosing slowly but my scale makes me smile now. What about you, when did you graduate? Do you work in your field?

Take care !

Madame Suzanne :smile2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
