I have AARP United Health Care supplement to my Medicare and it will pay for Curves and/or a number of different gyms in my area with Silver Sneakers. Other secondary medicare insurances have plans also that pay for gyms etc. Check your out to see what they offer at no charge to you, except for your monthly premium.

Sadly, our secondary ins, United Healthcare, doesn't cover Silver Sneakers or the Gastric Sleeve surgery.

Medicare doesn't cover Silver Sneakers. Seems dumb to me, but what do I know.

I did check all that out.

My Bariatric center is applying to Medicare for the coverage, I was told that in this area, Medicare covers 80%.

I am hoping to hear about approval by the end of this week.

Desert Fitness costs me about $36 a month, and all the people that work there are really nice. I got a personal trainer for a month when I first started. She isn't an employee of DF, neither are a lot of the PT's. Very reasonable rates too. After I can get back to working out, post surgery, I'm going to do another month with her.

You might check it out Patsy.

I hate to be a wet blanket but do you really want to put your exercise experience in the hands of a personal trainer who is not employed by the gym? Lots of people think they want to help, but go slow to accept it. Who are these people to give you advice on how to exercise? Will they take responsibility if you are hurt? Will ANYBODY?

I am at an age when I have heard every story about everything that can go wrong.

This is one:

My cousin went for back therapy very recently to improve the muscles in her back. Her "therapists" were actually employed by the place she was assigned to. These young therapists told this 70 year old, over 200 pound woman to bounce on one of those exercise balls. They were not even spotting her. Well, she bounced all right. She broke the d@^^# ball! She fell straight down and crushed three vertebre. She was in agony. Her "therapists" were two young things that knew S#!+ about exercising people over 60. So, use your head. Who are you going to sue if you have an accident? Not the gym. You will have to sue the people who "helped" you, IF you can find them.

The moral: Yes, isn't it nice to have nice people being so helpful. But watch out.

Worry not, this particular personal trainer is licensed and in fact most of her clients are either elderly or are physically disabled. She is very gentle and very careful about what she has me do.

However, I do know what you are talking about. It is one of the several reasons I quit LA Fitness. On my very first visit there, the LA Fitness "trainer" took me around to show me the various machines and exercises I should do.

Well, he showed me alright, he pushed me so hard, the next day I could hardly move! Of course I did the stupid thing by trying to show him how in shape I (thought) I was. I didn't last there long.

I am very pleased with the gal at Desert Fitness. So don't worry. K? Thank you for your conern though, I do appreciate it.

Ok, another step closer!

Got Medicare approval!!!!!

Now start the pre-op tests. I have the esophegal test on 8/31. I am going to ask if they can do a colonoscopy at the same time. I'm a year past due and figure they could do them both at once, meeting in the middle LOL

I also have to get clearance from my heart doc, which should not be a problem.

Then chest xray and blood work.

Sooooo, I'm still hoping for mid Sept for the surgery date.

Oh, and I'm not sure if I'm going to have to have another sleep study or not. The office is checking on that.

Every step gets me closer!!

I'll be going to the new TMC tower for surgery. Dr Monash helped design the bariatric surgery center there.

Not too nervous yet, but once the actual date is set, then the nerves will probably kick in.

Thank you, I will probably make a pest of myself LOL

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
