I heart Brussels Sprouts

Recommended Posts

Okay, so today I tried Brussels Sprouts for the very first time, I know that's a shame (I'm 32). And guess what, I love them. I don't know why they get such a bad rep. I sautéed them with red onions in butter flavored cooking spray (olive oil would probably be better) and seasoned them with granulated chicken bouillon and fresh garlic. Not bad at all. They will be going into the repertoire.

I've developed a love for them too! I buy the packages of frozen ones at Trader Joe's, so I can make 5-6 small sprouts at a time and not have a whole bushel of fresh ones go bad before I can use them.

They are really good roasted. I spray them with olive oil spray and then sprinkle on salt and pepper and add some of that minced garlic in olive oil. I put them in a little mini cocotte/casserole and roast for 25 minutes at 4, stirring a couple of times during cooking. Sometimes for the last minute I'll sprinkle some shredded parmesan on top and run them under the broiler, so that they get crispy and browned on top. Yum!

If you're up for trying something new, try lentils or spaghetti squash. I prefer lentils over Beans as lentils seem to soak up some of the flavor of whatever they are cooked in.

Spaghetti squash, split it in half then cook face down on a pizza sheet in the over at 350 for 1 hour or split into halves, cover with plastic wrap and cook in the microwave for 20 minutes. Spray on a little Pam or add butter and you have a real treat that's low calorie and high in Fiber.

I've always loved them, but haven't had in a while. My Doc told me to have Protein and veggies only. Brussels sprouts are now on my grocery list!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
